I really loved Animal Kingdom but was disappointed with Dinosaur. I generally saw good reviews of it and the pictures I have seen made it look excellent.

On my ride I could barely see anything becuase it was so dark - the dinosaurs kept popping out but I didn't feel I was in a prehistoric envrionment. Just a dark room with a few animatronic dinos.

Anyone else find this or should I be eating more carrots? :D

I wasn't thrilled with Dinosaur either. I didn't even go on it at my last visit, but am willing to try again this year. Maybe it was b/c it was my first time ,but I was actually overwhelmed & scared.

I will try any ride/attraction that is thrown at me on this earth, but "DINOSAUR" scared me more than anything else, ever! It was dark but that added to the fear factor, when another dino came popping out. My DD (5) wants to try this in january and I don't think I can let her; she'll laugh at mom!

I found it very dark myself. But I was holding on for dear life--that ride shakes you up. Rode it once, never again.

We just got back on July 4 and did find this ride darker and LOUDER than in the past.
some of the "trip" was so bumpy and dark that I couldn't make out the dinosaur we were supposed to be looking at. Wonder if they upped the decibels and lowered the lights for shock value??

I did find this ride louder than I remebered it to be. I love the ride though. It's pretty scary!!

I am the all-time ride chicken, but I LOVE Dinosaur! I think it was much better and scarier when it was "Countdown To Extinction." The start of the ride used to be much more intense (fast acceleration then a realistic "floating in space" sensation), and you could really feel the heat of that flaming asteroid.

Still a favorite.

Dinosaur had the potential to be an E ticket attraction, but it just doesn't measure up for me. It's not that it's too dark, rough, or loud, it just seems to lack that Disney touch. Too bad. They have a LOT invested in that attraction.:earsboy:

too dark? at least not in February when we went there. My daughter and I were so bored because not only we can see the track where the ride is going, we can also see the dinos before they 'move and attack' us.

We didn't buy the picture taken at the end of the ride because we (and most people in the car) look bored.

Loud yes, too loud in fact. Too dark? not at all

debkorb1- Your description of "a dark room with a few animatronic dinos" is quite accurate. But don't go on a crash carrot diet.... THAT'S ALL THERE IS!

The budget for the attraction was slashed by Mr. Ei$ner after construction had already begun. I'm not sure of the exact date he pulled the plug, but I'll betcha that year Mr. Ei$ner got his obscene bonus as usual!

Essentially, the ride platform for this attraction is the same as Indiana Jones in DL, but with a completely different story line. Anyone who has ridden both, can use their imagination to envision what a wonderful attraction the imaginears had planned for Florida. Just think of all the detail at "Indy" and add a chunk of the primeval world at Universe of Energy, to say nothing of the new tech we could have expected from the imaginears.

Hopefully one day, Dinosaur will be the attraction the imaginears had planned. As it is, it's the "stripped down model".

Are we talking about the same ride??? NOTHING scares me more than this ride, I have been on it about 10 times, and I say to myself...youve been on this before, its not going to eat you....and everytime IM the one with his head under his hands at the picture spot!:p
I have not been on since they refurbished it in May, maybe they tamed it a bit?

i was disappointed in it in Jan...it wasn't scary at all to me but seemed kind of like a cheapy carnival ride to me..like it would kind of pause so you knew there was gong to be a dinosaur ("look another fake thing is moving ." ho hum) but jerky enough so it was hard to make things out before the dinos so no suspense or build up. just not up to par imo. maybe the refurbishing helped.

I hope not, if they tamed it further than what I experienced in February, they might as well change the ride to a walk-through looking at pictures of dino with really-really loud sound.

:( It's so sad to hear that Dinosaurs wasn't all that great! I liked it before, it was cool...but when we went back in May we were bummed to see that it was closed to be "refurbished"...and now to find out it's not good at all!

We were lookin forward to trying it again, but guess not huh? Not worth it?

:sad1:

umm...me too.

I've ridden this ride many times...I can deal with the bumpy/jerky ride...I just don't like things jumping out at me in the dark.

I basically have always kept my eyes closed throughout this entire ride. I've ridden it every trip sincd 1999...and just this past January I actually kept my eyes open the whole time. I was so proud of myself. hehehe

disney isn't one-size-fits-all...to the thrill seekers, yes, this ride will be tame...to those of us that get a thrill out of, say, Snow White...yes, it's going to be a bit more a thrill.

It would be a MUCH better ride if you could actually SEE something. They should update it with more visuals - it would improve the ride 100%

It didn't seem any different to me when I rode it a few weeks ago. I have ridden it every trip since 2001 and it seems the same. I actually like the ride the way it is, I think it achieves the desired effect by being so dark. I have been on Indy in Disneyland and it is a good attraction and comparable to Dinosaur, but they have very different storylines and goals to accomplish.
