Dinners that coincide with illuminations or MK Fireworks?

I was wondering if there where character dinners or dinner places offsite(such as a resort) that you can still see the different night shows? Thought it might be nice to combine the two. I am going the first week in May so I may not still have a chance to book res. But would like to try. TIA

I'm not sure about character meals, but I read in the Unofficial Guide that you can plan PS at the Rose and Crown around 7:15 pm so you're at dinner in time for the fireworks.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, Disney afficianados!!
