Dinner Shows

I am wondering this same thing for our upcoming trip. Seems like I have heard a lot more good reports about HDDR over the years.:confused3

I've been to both and I much prefer the Hoop De Doo... the interaction with the crowd is better and overall I think the show is more entertaining....

This has become a must do for DD8. We've tried Mickey's BBQ, HDD, and Spirit of Aloha. Hoop De Doo is the only one all three of us LOVE. DH and DD8 loved MBBQ, me, not so much. We liked SOA, but its not a must do. The humor at HDD is appropriate for all ages, food is simple and good, and we've never had an issue seeing the show from our seats in Tier 2.

HDDR has been on my must "Doo" list since I was a kid. They entertainment is a cheesey good time and the food is pretty good. I took a bunch of clients to it durring a convention at Gaylord Palms and they all had a great time. I am still trying to convince my girlfriend to go on our upcoming trip in October (I have taken her 3 times now, she wants to change things up... I don't).

We found SoA to be pretty subpar for Disney standards. The show is pretty boring and the food is so-so at best. IMO, it is not worth the time or money you need to invest into the show.

love both - others complain about SOA but if like us you have never experienced a 'true' luau then you have nothing to compare it to.

HDDR have done twice, food was good, salad, cornbread, ribs, chicken, beans, mashed potatoes and strawberry shortcake. None of us liked the dessert either trip. First trip we struggled to get drink refills - I had sangria and DS red wine. This trip we both had beer and could of swum in it if we had wanted to.

Loved the entertainment at HDDR - very cheesy humour but a real family laugh and the tin plates and jar glasses theming is fun.

SOA the food was fresh pineapple, salad, chicken, ribs, rice and chocolate pudding. The salad was not good and neither was the pudding. the drink was again plentiful. At both venues we had to pay extra to get DD a bottle of water and DS a fruit juice.

SOA show is various traditional dances from around different islands not just Hawaii. DD and I LOVED it. DH nearly lost his eyesight - the girls were very attractive. DS was highly embarrassed until the fire eater appeared and then like the rest of us was in awe.

Think you can see more at HDDR. We would do both again.

We've never done HDDR, but we really enjoyed SoA.....we thought the food was great and the show was cute :goodvibes. It's not something we would do every trip, but it is a show we would do again ;).
