I can't decide whether to book Hoop-Dee-Doo or Spirit of Aloha at Poly. Would love to hear your opinions. It will be me, my husband and 4 kids 16,13,11 and 2 1/2. Food is as important as the entertainment!! hee hee Our trip is late August into September. Thanks!

The food is about the same at either place.

I liked Hoop de doo more, but DD9 preferred SOA. They are different types of entertainment.

Hoop de do is slapstick comedy with singing and dancing. The cast goes out into the audience, and there is some audience participation.

SOA is more of a showcase of traditional Pacific Island dancing and music and fire juggling.

They are very different types of shows, so which one you would enjoy more depends on your tastes in types of entertainment. (I like slapstick comedy, my DD LOVES dancing).

I completely disagree with the PP...the food is not anywhere the same. Hoop De Doo is homestyle cookin....tossed salad, bread, Ma's Delicious Fried Chicken, Smoked Barbecued Pork Ribs, Mashed Potatoes, Country Style Baked Beans and Strawberry Shortcake

Included with the meal: Coca Cola, Diet Coke, Root Beer, Sprite, Orange, Pink Lemonade, Iced Tea, Apple Juice, Milk, Chocolate Milk, Hot Tea, Coffee, Draft Bud Light, Chardonnay, Rose, Sangria, and Merlot

The food at Spirit of Aloha is Appetizers Pineapple-Coconut Bread, Mixed Greens with Mango Poppy Seed Dressing, Sweet Golden Pineapple
Main Course Island Barbecued Pork Ribs, Roasted Chicken, Polynesian Rice and Fresh Seasonal Vegetables
Dessert is Kilauea Volcano Delight
Again Complimentary Beverages

I find the show at Hoop De Doo MUCH more fun for kids and the food much more kid friendly. My nephew, who is now 10, had been to Hoop De Doo twice when we finally went to Spirit of Aloha. He said in the middle of the show...."take me back to Hoop De Doo!!"

I prefer the HDDR, we have been there 4 times (once just last Oct.) and to SOA 1 time several years ago. The next tme I would go to one it would be the HDDR again. I likes the Ribs and Chicken both places, the second round if you want more usually isn't the best stuff. The pitcher of bud light may make everything taste a little better, and if I like the bud light my taste isn't that good anyway. It's the show, we were pretty much bored with SOA, if they would change it up I would go again, the fire twirler is great though. After 4 times to HDDR the show is still fun (maybe the bud light).
Here is the thing the SOA could be canceled due to bad weather, the stage is outside even though the dinner seating is under cover. I don't know how many shows are cancelled each year, if you would have ADR's later in the week for this show and you are using the dining plan you may not be able to find a use for the 2 credits so do this show early in the week.

I would definitely recommend HDDR! My kids loved it at that age and we enjoyed the food. Be prepared for many a chorus of "Hoop Dee Doo...Hoop Dee Doo" long after the show is over! :goodvibes

Try going to you tube and watching the shows. Its not great quality and they are only small clips but it will give you a good idea of what to expect. HDDR is awesome though! Its a must do on all of our trips! We are trying SoA this time but after watching the video and reading the reviews I am not excited at all about this one :sad2:. Maybe Ill be pleasently surprised!!

Thank you everyone for your "2 cents". I am going with HDD this trip. Im sold!
