Dinner shows and autism

DS23 has autism and gets overwhelmed at restaurants with loud themes and overwhelming decorations. But he does love shows. We have one non-park day planned and would like to try a dinner show or just a nice dinner at one of the resort hotels. We had an invitation from friends to join them for Mickey's Backyard BBQ, but I checked it out on YouTube and it looks too loud and boisterous.

Anyone have any suggestions or just general info that might help us decide where to dine?

Also, I think I read somewhere that at AK, you can get make Tusker House reservations in the afternoon packaged with the Finding Nemo show. Does anyone have any info on that?

If he likes slap stick comedy (like a lot of our kids) then hoop-dee-doo is a must, although it is a little noisy but if you sit in the upper level it is not to bad.

Anyone else? I personally like the idea of of the Spirit of Aloha Dinner at the Polynesian, but am thinking it's family style dining, and my son would not like eating with strangers.

My ASD daughter loved the Hoop-Dee-Doo.... from the balcony a little bit away from the heart of the matter. She isn't TERRIBLY sound-sensitive as a rule, but did get overstimulated here and there at Disney. Not at Hoop-Dee-Doo, though. Plus, Miss Fussy Pants willingly ate the chicken, potatoes, and strawberry shortcake. Service was fabulous, too.

Just checking, are you talking about the Spirit of Aloha dinner or Hoop-dee-doo?

If there's lots of drumming at SOA, I can see him definitely not liking that. Likewise with Hoop-dee-doo, if there's lots of high pitched 'yee-haw' stuff , he wouldn't like that either. What to do, what to do? The balconey seats sound possible though. Many thanks for the insight, everyone!

It was the Spirit of Aloha he didn't like. We took him to HDDR when he was only about 6 and he was just OK because we sat in the balcony and could walk him around. Haven't been back to any show with him since.

Not really a show but what about eating at the morrocan reseraunt in epcot. He might like the belly dancers there. Haven't been to beirgarten in Germany yet but it looks like something he might like. Also dinning in Japan at the world showcase might be just the thing for him. Explain the situation when making the reservation. When are you planning on going. Would he be willing to eat with another family he could meet up whith ahead of time. Break the ice so to speak before dinner.
