Here's where we ate dinner last week. It was me, DH, DS 5, and DD 2.
Chef Mickey - We did this on our first night, and it was a lot of fun! However, IMO you definitely come for the characters, not the food. It started off promising. The salald was very good with crispy, green lettuce. I didn't think the rest of the meal was that great, nothing horrible, but just typical buffet food. My DH and I did like the short ribs. They have a kids' food area with your typical kid choices, and both of my kids liked the macaroni and chicken fingers. I made a brownie sundae for dessert. It was good, but nothing like a Beaches and Cream sundae!! The characters were good, and it was great not having to hunt them down the rest of the week. I will come back as long as my kids want to.
Earl of Sandwich - This was actually lunch, but I forgot to post it with my lunch reviews. We got two sandwiches and split them both. The original was very good - roast beef and horseradish. We also got the All American - turkey, cranberries, and cheese. It was good, but I liked the original better. The line was very long, and we didn't see anything for kids so my DH went and got two cheeseburgers at McD for my kids. Does anyone know if they make anything special for kids that wasn't on the menu? It is a great little sandwich shop, and we'll definitely go there again. By the way, the line moved fast so don't let it scare you away.
Mama Melrose - We started off with calamari because my DS and DD love it! It was very tender, not at all chewy. I also liked the breading, but it was greasy. I kept having to wipe my fingers. I had the chicken parmesan. My mom makes the best, and it wasn't quite as good as hers, but it was good. My DH had Fra Diavola. He gets this seafood dish at a lot of places and did not rate this one very high. It was only lukewarm, and he just did not like it as well as he likes it at other places. My kids both had penne pasta and ate it all. Our server was not that good. She forgot our salad. We had it taken off the bill instead of eating it with our dinner, and she wasn't very social like the other ones we saw there. It was an okay meal but we like Brown Derby better although we haven't eaten there since our honeymoon!
Marrakesh This is the Moroccon restaurant in Epcot. Although my DD fell asleep at the table, we really enjoyed our meal here! My kids weren't very adventurous and got pasta meal. My DS ate all of his. My DH and I both got the Royal Feast. This is a sampler of quite a few things. Our first course was Moroccan salad, chicken bastilla, and seafood bastilla. I actually liked the seafood bastilla best. Our main course was lamb meshoui, lemon chicken, and vegetable couscous. The lamb was so tender! My favorite though was the vegetable couscous. The chicken had a very good flavor but a little dry. For dessert we had the crepes atlas. I am normally a chocolate person but these apple crepes were pretty good. The belly dancer was fun to watch although we had such quick service we only saw her once. We had a very nice server who was very patient with us not having a clue what to order, which is why we ended up with one of the samplers! I would definitely go back but first I have a goal to go to every World Showcase restaurant.
Spoodles - Our meals just kept getting better! We again started with calamari. I liked it better than Mama Melrose. I thought the breading was a little better, and it was not greasy at all. It was a little chewy, but oh well. They put the relish on the side so my kids wouldn't be bothered by it. We also had the roasted vegetable and hummus flatbread. It was good but probably would pick a different one next time. The vegetables made it a little soggy rather than crispy which we prefer. For our entrees, I had the grilled salmon with sweet onion risotta, red wine sauce, and crispy onions. It was delicious! My husband had paella which he also liked a lot. We were too full for dessert. The boardwalk is a lot of fun to visit in the evening if you have never done that.
Boma - Here is our one repeating dinner from last year. We just loved it again. Personally, I cannot get enough of the soups and hummus. I am all set with those and a salad. I also liked the prime rib and fu fu. My kids always eat well with the kid pods. I must say the quality of their kids' selections is so much better than Chef Mickeys IMO. I sampled 5 desserts (yikes!) My favorite is the bread pudding. We came straight to AKL after our AK day so transportation wasn't an issue getting there. It did take quite a while to get back to POR, but it is worth it. I would like to try Jiko, but I would have such a hard time not going to Boma!
California Grill - Sadly, we have come to our last dinner and my last review. (I now feel like my vacation is officially over.) We had an excellent meal here!! We had a 6:00 PS. There were no window seats left, but we could see Cinderella's castle so I was happy. We started with triple cheese flatbread - absolutely delicious - and the spinach salad. It had cremini mushrooms, warm smoked bacon dressing, and a soft cooked egg. It was supposed to come with gorgonzola, but I am not allowed to have that and it was no problem to leave it off. I love spinach salad, and this ranks as one of the best. For an entree, I had the grilled pork tenderloin with polenta, mushrooms, and a red wine sauce. I loved it especially when you had a little bit of everything in a bite. My DH had a tuna dish that was not even on the menu. The server told him they could make this dish when they were discussing the sushi. My DH says it was very good with an emphasis on the very! The kids once again had pasta!! They loved writing on the paper tablecloth. People always ask about kids here. There were tons, and I saw no misbehaving. It is by no means a quiet restaurant so you don't have to worry about them not talking quietly. Now for dessert. My DH and I split the chocolate molten cake with rasberry swirl ice cream. It is a little piece of heaven! My kids had the rice krispi sushi and all was eaten. We really liked it and hope to go back!
Any ? I will be happy to try and answer.
