First time to Universal with the family. Normally we always make our ADR's 6 months in advance at Disney. Will be at Universal 4/19-4/22. Do we need to make reservations in advance for places like Mythos and Emeril's?

there was a kink in the system for making adr's for the motherland for me this time around.....
i did the countdown to that 180 + 10 days out and it wouldn't accept my ressie number.
Whew................
but, the darkside isn't anything like making adr's for the motherland.
you can go to www.opentable.com and make a ressie.
the only place i would say make one for would be Emeril's.
Mythos should not be a problem but if it gives you peace of mind, make one for that place also.
i see you have a saturday in your visit.
if you are going to eat at city walk or at one of the hotel restaurants at the normal dining times, make a ressie for that saturday to be on the safe side.
the week after Easter is a busy time in the parks.
once that week is over, the crowds die down.
there is a booth in city walk where you can make ressies for the same day.
you can call the restaurant and make a ressie or use the link above for ressies.
if you are staying onsite, show your hotel card and you will be put on the priority list for a table at city walk, if you do not have a ressie.
Emerils yes .
Mythos, you can if you want to.I did for my trip in Jan and it made a difference since we didn't wait for a table but there were people waiting 45 mins for a table.
Both can be made on Opentable.com about 60 days ahead of time
I used Open Table to book a reservation for a day during the week following Memorial Day. For some reason I can't make a reservation past 4 PM. We prefer something after 6 PM but weren't allowed to book anything past 4PM.

For your dates, yes you do. However that does not mean you can't change them if available when you desire. Having them during a high peak time is a GREAT idea.
