Dinner meals in a studio

We are hoping to cook dinner in our SSR studio for 1 night (night before we check in to BWV). Being in a studio, limits things, plus, we can't store any leftovers as we are checking into BWV the next day.

Anyone have any ideas? We don't eat processed/packaged foods, nor fast food, so I'm having trouble coming up with ideas.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tiger :)

You do know that there is no kitchen in a Studio. You have a microwave, toaster and a coffee maker. Also just paper plates, bowls and cups.

If that's your first night onsite, and you have a one-day trip to get there, make a favorite, freezable "one course" microwavable meal (stew, chili, spaghetti, veg lasagna, etc.) that is just enough for one meal, and pack it in your luggage (frozen). Then you have an empty storage container to use later on, and if you use a disposable container for the freezing, it makes a little souvenir space in your luggage for the trip home. (I pack a box of cereal in my suitcase when flying [much cheaper to bring from home] then I have that emptied space at the end of the trip for stuff I accumulate along the way). If you bring a couple of frozen items, you can pack them in a small collapsible "cooler" that can also be handy during the week(s) you're on vacation.

Bell Services at the DVC resorts have refrigeration capability also; some people give them a large cooler to store and that can also be transferred from one resort to another by Bell Serv (guess I don't want to do a 2 letter abbrev of that).

what I do you can't.

cook meals before leaving - freeze them - then take them in a cooler frozen to the DVC resort staying out.

since I generally drive this is not a problem. also live 9 hours away (soon to be much closer).

Love the freezing of the meals idea! We usually take a soft sided cooler as 1 carry on, on the plane with misc. sandwich meat, cheese ect.... and it always works out great. Food stays cold for a good 5 - 6 hours and with the frozen lasagna idea even better I think I am doing that next trip!

I would eat out for the first night and not have to worry about making the meal at SSR.

As PP, DTD is a short walk or they have some decent food at SSR.

Have you seen my signature? LOL! We've done it all pretty much, so we know there is just a kitchenette. :thumbsup2 Thanks. :)

Thanks to all for your suggestions, but not possible as this would be night 4 of our trip (the last night in a studio). We then move to BWV for the next 6 nights in a 1 bed. On this day, we are eating sandwiches at GF Cafe for lunch, so we were looking for something different besides sandwiches.

We've stayed at SSR a ton of times, so we know we are in close proximity to Downtown Disney, just looking for some other options, as we are there for a total of 11 days.

Sorry for any confusion, as I left out info - we also have our own car. We are just looking to see if there are any dinner meals for a studio using the kitchenette. We've done breakfast, but nothing else.

OMG- Too funny. Anyway, I agree that Bell Services can store a cooler or even leftovers placed in a soft-side cooler, etc. I'd bring something with me though vs. trying to conjure up a healthy meal in a studio.---Kathy

Take a left at Cross Road and head to Winn Dixie (10 minutes away from SSR & OKW), they have very good rotiserrie chickens, add a bag of salad plus vegies like cukes, tomatoes, chi-chi beans and red onion, a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine (Liquor store is in the same plaza). You can even microwave plain minute rice and mix in a little chunky salsa for a side dish or do microwaved baked potatoes! Having a car makes a world of difference in your eating possibilities.

That was not our experience the one time we used Bell Serv for a split stay from BWV to SSR.
We had a large hardside blue igloo cooler. They apparently stored in the sun because all the ice had melted & the food on top was warm. We did not specifically request refrigeration, but thought it obvious.

I can't remember, but does SSR have grills? You could cook chicken or something on the grill and then just worry about making the side dishes in the studio.

Thanks all! We usually shop at Winn Dixie on SR535 (mentioned above), but we have never prepared anything besides breakfast in our studio, so thanks for the help.

My favorite type of dinner without a stove is to put together an antipasto platter - meats, cheeses, some french bread and some pieces of fruit. If you can get to a grocery store, this could be put together pretty easily.

I would say some spaghetti with tomato sauce. I think you could microwave the noodles in water, drain and then add some sauce. I'm not sure if the jarred sauce would be too packaged for you.

Also, I have made some yummy bagel sandwiches by heating some muenster cheese on a bagel in a microwave and then adding sliced tomato and sprouts. This was my quick lunch in law school when I had a tiny kitchen. They're better when they are toasted, but I have microwaved them before.

Good luck!

This may not help you, but we are staying in a studio for 3 nights this weekend and are taking our Forman gril. We plan on making steak fajitas one night (can just do meat and veggies on gril), and Hamburgers one nigt :thumbsup2 This will be littarley our 3rd vaction in 30 days so we are trying not to eat out KWIM!

since you have a car.. I agree with the above poster.. grab a bag of salad... some chicken and a bottle of wine...

love love love SSR!!

As another poster already suggested, Dh and I love doing an evening of cheeses, olives, salami's(or similar), fruit, crackers or bread, and wine.

If you can bring a big bowl with you to mix a salad, I would buy bagged spinach, craisins, crumbled feta, and either walnuts or pecans. Mix that all up with a poppyseed dressing and you've got a great light meal to eat out on your balcony.
