Dinner in Wedding Attire?

I'm not officially engaged to my boyfriend yet (but we've talked about it a ton), but I lurk on this board and have gotten tons of information that way. I can't start really planning anything (and we probably won't be married until 2009, so there's TONS of time to plan everything), but I figured having lots of details in my head couldn't hurt . I'm fairly certain we'll be going over the maximum number of guests for an escape wedding, and because of money, I won't want to do a custom, which means no Disney Wedding.

When the time comes and the guest list is finalized, we'll decide for sure, but I'd rather more people who love us show up on our day than to have to limit the number so I can afford to get married exactly where I want. However, because of the locations of our families (mine are in California, his are in Philadelphia), a destination wedding makes sense. So we're thinking of an non-Disney Florida Wedding, possibly the Swan.

If we do go non-Disney, can we still have a reception dinner in wedding attire at one of the Disney resort restaurants? Or is that only allowed if you have a Disney Wedding? Also, can I customize our menu?

Pezalicious, I am not sure if this is allowed, as I know DFTW like to reserve special privileges for their brides, but hopefully someone else in the "know" will be able to weigh in. You'd probably need to go through Event Planning instead of DFTW; maybe call them and explain you are just in the early pre-planning stages and are curious?

Not at all. We know we'll be together forever. We've even named the child we plan together, even though I'm not pregnant. There's nothing wrong with gathering info, right? I didn't think this board was only for people who were officially engaged.

Just wanted to let you know that my parents had their vow renewal at Leu Gardens in Orlando. Then we had a lunch at Grand Floridian Cafe. We all ordered off of the menu. But they let us decorate the tables and put out favors, etc. I know that Escape brides have done customized menus at a few places. You might when it's time call some of the resort restaraunts personally. HTH's.

It might make you feel better to know that I was just engaged this week at Disney to my BF of 5 years!

We also talked about a WDW wedding and it is amazing to see that my dream will come true! Men don't talk about Disney weddings if they're not serious. It sounds a lot like my story and I'm sure yours will work out just the same.

I've been on this board for about a year and I am very glad I have because I have a ton of ideas that I've gotten from here and we were able to have dinner at Cali Grill and discuss how it would be to have the wedding there while looking at it in person!

I believe you can have dinner in wedding gear at resorts and Downtown Disney but NOT parks. Honestly, you might look into a small custom, too. Or a wedding at the WDW Swan and Dolphin (we saw one while we were there! ) Prices are lower there. If you tell me more budget info, I'll look into it for you.

hey there, I planned my wedding before I got engaged and thank goodness becuase I would be soooo stressed right now if I didn't.

To answer your question, you should contact the restaurant directly to see if that's okay. You should also speak with someone from DFTW's just to be sure!

i didnt have a disney wedding but just wanted to chime in and say you are not jumpig the gun at all! before my DH and I were married I had already planned a LOT of our wedding, and we dont have kids but have ideas of what we want their names to be! good luck!

I'm not going to be a Disneybride either but i think it's great that you are planning ahead!! absolutely nothing wrong with that - in fact, it will make things go much smoother for you if you have some set ideas of which way you want to go!

i think its fun to plan ahead of time...better to be prepared & well informed than to be there & looking silly....good for you....your a planner(so am i)..you'll go far in life

No particular budget, I just know I wouldn't want to do the expense of a custom. I'm 29 and he's 32 - we're not the youngin's we once were. When I think about expenses that will be in the not too distant future (say, within 5 years - a home and everything that comes with it, taking care of a child, moving across the country, etc.), I start thinking a really expensive wedding is just frivolous. Besides, we want a nice honeymoon and we also want to spend some time at Disney World with our friends and family before the wedding.

I think it is very smart to plan ahead. You are definitely not "jumping the gun". I think it's normal for most couples to discuss marriage and their wedding before they are actually engaged!

We're happy to discuss wedding planning with anyone here, man, woman, gay, straight, ring or no ring. And as you can clearly read from the OP, she has her guy AND her fairytale. Just because a ring hasn't been presented yet doesn't mean the intention isn't there. There's no harm in preparing in advance when we are all aware of what a financial expense a wedding is.
