Hi,
What restaurant do you recommend in Japan? We would like a table service.

Teppan Edo is hibatchi while I believe (I could be wrong) the other restaurant focuses more on sushi.

We like them both for different reasons.

Teppan Edo is a lot of fun. It isn't outstanding if you have a teppanyaki restaurant in your area, but the food is good and the show is entertaining. We've had excellent service there, and being seated with other families is usually good for some entertaining conversations. Once we were seated with an older couple and quickly discovered that she and my mother worked their whole careers for the same agency in different states. Another time, our tablemates were transplants from a community about 30 miles from our home.

Tokyo Dining is quieter and a more relaxing dining experience. The sushi is good and not as "gimmicky" as a lot of American sushi places can be. They have the fancy rolls but they also have good, fresh, simple sushi and bento box meals. I don't really care for dining here on the DDP because it can be restrictive in a situation where maybe three appetizers/rolls sound better than an actual entree. Again, we've had good experiences with the service. Actually, that's a constant throughout the Japan pavilion - the cast there are really polite and attentive and patient with DD trying to use her two years of high school Japanese with them.

We have eaten at both. For me, Teppan Edo was my most disappointing WDW restaurant ever. However, it would be the more entertaining choice if you have kids. If you can get hibachi at home, I wouldn't waste the money. On the other hand, Tokyo Dining is one of our favs. Great great food, amazing service. Restaurant is a bit chilly, which actually could be a benefit in the summer I guess! Even my picky, plain eating BIL loved this meal.

I haven't eaten at Tokyo Dining, but I agree about Teppan Edo - it was terrible. Even the worst hibachi I've had at home was better than TE.

Of the two, I would pick Tokyo Dining though the quality and variety of the food has gone downhill in recent years. Teppan Edo's food is incredibly salty and the "show" is quite short and lackluster. The service at Tokyo Dining is outstanding and the food is fine, but if you are looking for sushi, the menu is very limited (think, salmon, tuna and fake crab). If you want better sushi, head out of EP and walk or boat to the Swan for Kimono's. If you want better Asian/Japanese food (items beyond sushi), go to Morimoto in DS.

Many DIS people will recommend Teppan Edo but we have great hibachi at home so we would never bother having it at WDW. We love Japanese food and have it at least once a week at home and we love Tokyo Dining. It is a must do for us on every trip. Although I agree that the old menu was better, and we have lost some great menu items, we still love the restaurant. The servers are friendly and we have had great service every time we have dined there.

Tokyo Dining is absolutely wonderful and a bit underrated in my opinion. Go there for a quieter, more intimate meal. The menu is broader than what is listed on MDE. I got an incredible bento box that had a bit of everything - NY Strip, salmon, salad, roll, tempura, etc.

We were also disappointed in Teppan Edo. The "show" consisted of the chef making an onion volcano, and going "ooooh!" when the smoke came out. That was it. We are trying Tokyo Dining for the first time this May, which can undoubtedly only be better.
