Which would you chose?

We don't do many buffets, but thought the kids might like one of these.

Please advise.

BOMA!!!

We've been to both and we all prefer Boma. We like the more unusual variety of foods and the lines don't get as bogged down as the ones at Cape May. Boma has a great variety of soups and salads. DH like the different hummus and the ribs. We have been going to Boma since DS was 5 and he is fairly adventurous with his eating. He likes the ribs and zebra cakes the best. If you or your children are not as adventurous, they do have the standard chicken fingers and mac n cheese. Cape May is more of a standard dinner buffet with a little more fish variety and steamers (which run out quickly).

I love both buffets. I have to give the edge to Boma though for its atmosphere and the unusual foods.

BUT.....my kids absolutely HATED Boma. When they went to Cape May, not only did the eat off the kid's buffet, but the ate heartily from the other options. At Boma, they didn't find much more than they wanted beyond the kiddie food. That was tough to swallow since I had two 14 year olds and I was paying the adult price for them to get chicken fingers.

I have a review of Boma right now, in the Dining Review thread, that you may want to check out. I posted pictures and listed all the foods we ate there, so you could read & see whether any of them sound like they're up your alley or not. We enjoy Boma very much, but I guess it depends on how adventurous your children are. Boma does have the standard mac & cheese kids' section, but their other foods aren't the mashed potatoes, ribs, etc. style foods that you'll find at Cape May Cafe.

Cheers!

With kids I wouldn't pick Boma, They would probably like anywhere else better unless they like the unusual foods. Otherwise you'll be buying them another meal on the way home.

Boma - our 4 year old even loved it. If you have small kids, they have traditional kid food on the buffet. She ate more at Boma than at Cape May.

Boma!!! We did both and it is no contest in our opinion. My 23 month old actually ate and the waitstaff treated him wonderfully. We went back for a second time and cancelled another ADR.

BOMA!!!

(unless you're staying at the BC, BCV, or YC for Cape May convenience)

The offerings for children are similar at both - mac and cheese, pizza, chicken fingers, etc. I think CMC has hotdogs and Boma has pasta and meatballs...? DS loves Boma because he can eat as much watermelon as he likes. He also enjoys the kids foods and the prime rib, the desserts, and seeing the animals when we arrive and leave. And the waitstaff spoiled him rotten. He went up with me to get prime rib and the lovely gentleman who was carving quietly handed him a plastic container of gummy bears. DS was smitten right there! But he loves CMC as well - this time it's the corn on the cob he overeats.

You can't go wrong with either, but Boma is just outstanding! Kids have plenty of options, adults have even more options and you can spend some time enjoying the African animals. Yes, Boma has more exotic offerings, but the children's selections are basic and familiar.

So unless YOU prefer the clams, mussels and shrimp at CMC, I would go with Boma.

(PS: if you do choose CMC, you have to try the Oreo bon bons! And Boma of course is famous for the Zebra Domes).

I love seafood and absolutely hated CMC. I thought the food was awful. I do however LOVE Boma. It's so great! Try to check out the different menus for the different nights and pick your night basedon the menu.

On our last trip in 05, Boma was the ONE restaurant that I couldn't wait to try. I was so excited and when we walked into the AKL, just breathtaking. To our dismay, Boma wasn't a great dining experience for us. We are pretty adventurous eaters and can handle alot of different spices and flavors. The kids and DH tried numerous things but just didn't like much of anything.

Having said all of that I think AKL is gorgeous and Boma is a beautiful place to eat and the atmosphere was awesome. And it very well could have been that we went on a bad night but I think when we stay at AKL for our next trip we'll give Boma a try for breakfast.

We went to Boma for Christmas dinner 2006 (same food as normal buffet with a few xmas enhancements) and it was great. We were thinking about going to Cape May this November but after the comments on this thread, maybe we'll stick with Boma! :confused3
