I keep reading that lunch at the Sci-Fi is a lot better than dinner? Is this really true? We have dinner reservations for June and were looking forward to having dinner there but will switch to lunch if we have to. Also can you get lunch items for dinner...Cheesburgers?

Sci-Fi is a great restaurant...but I have to be honest when I say that I do not like the dinner menu. It is all salmon, ribs, etc. The menu just does not fit with the restaurant. And beware...they may stick a another family in your car! :confused3

We chose to have lunch instead of dinner, and thought the food was ok. Our waiter really stunk, he was as boring as a dish rag. I don't know if we would have liked the place better with a better waiter or not. The cookies and cream milkshake was really good though!

Our waiter was really nice to the kids ...maybe a little too nice to our teenage DD  . I really liked my cheeseburger and DH's ribs were good too. We loved the atmosphere and sitting in the cars. We didn't have any "hitch-hikers" but I don't think it would be a problem. We plan on eating here again when we go back in 304 days!! :woohoo:

The food in general is mediocre at best. The atmosphere is really fun though. We also had 2 servers that were HORRIBLE which made our experience even less enjoyable. I would suggest going there for dessert only, their desserts and shakes are really good.

I wish we'd had lunch there instead of dinner. A burger or sandwich might have been okay, but my steak dinner was awful. Hubby didn't like his entree and neither kids enjoyed theirs much, either. Ironically, Sci-Fi had the worst food of our trip, but the best waiter.

We had lunch there and thought it was decent. It's nothing to knock your socks off but we had a great time and our waiter was super! Just a thought - can you change your lunch seating to the latest lunch time available? Then just have a late night snack for dinner? Dinner isn't served until 4:00.

Burgers are not listed on the menu for dinner but I'll bet you could request one.

HTH!

I just found a site that listed burgers on the menu (June 05) for dinner (my teens don't try too many new things, unfortunately). I don't get why there is such a difference between lunch and dinner experiences since it's the same restaurant. You would think that a meal is a meal no matter what time it is. Does it tend to become a more busy time period for dinner meals?

would suggest not going there at all........had multiple bad experiences there (food and servers), went back after initial bad experience hoping was just a fluke, it wasn't.......this was within last year also by the way........just my opinion.......

I was not at all impressed with this place. DH thought it was a really great atmosphere, but didnt brag about the food. Mind you, we werent :crazy2: by the food either. Well, not until the bill came! this was before the DDP :rotfl2:

Sci-Fi is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is average but we love the atmosphere. Plus since we been so many times there we tend to have our favorites, like DS and I always get onion rings and Reuben, DH and other DS get salads, shakes and burgers. It sort of makes me sad now that I think about it that only 6 days ago I was having dinner there and I have to wait for over a year. We had some marginal service when we first checked in but never bad service from the wait stuff. I guess it just goes to show how different experiences can be from one person to the next.

We were there last week. There were no burgers on the dinner menu. I had a reuben, which was good; and a vanilla shake which was nothing more than soft serve ice cream in a tall glass - very disappointing. DW had a salad which was ok, nothing special. I suspect if you really want a burger for dinner they'll get you one from the Comissary next door.

Our server was very good, and we love the theming, but we're very disappointed that the menu has gotten so far away from "drive-in cuisine." We'll go back for lunch or for an afternoon snack but probably won't have dinner there again unless some fairly major changes are made to the menu.

We went for dinner and had to wait way longer than they told us, so it started off badly. Then the host took off without us and we had to catch up with him(we weren't dawdling). Then it took forever to get greeted by our server. The cars are cute and the movies are funny and the atmosphere is neat. But it was freezing cold, the food took forever and was not good. We had the worst experience and we had been really looking forward to it. So we will not go back.

My bad I forgot to add that even if the hamburger is not on the menu you can request it.

Yup. Dh ordered one for dinner. You can ask for it and they will make for you. I agree about the food not being great. I should have stuck with burgers and shakes. The shakes were great. DH loved his burger.

I'd never tried Sci Fi, mainly because we like Prime Time Cafe so much and I'd read so many negative comments about the place. My DD wanted to try it, though (and Prime Time was closed) so we ate there for dinner last week.

Our waiter was not the best and seemed very busy. We were in the front of the car and they placed a couple of young men in the back. That was a little weird, but turned out to be the best part of the meal. They were fun to chat with, suggested that we do a "Chinese Fire Drill", which we did (embarrassed the heck out of my 18yo DD :teeth: ) and turned the meal into a real great time. The food was good--we shared one dining credit and got the artichoke/spinach dip appetizer, Vegetarian Pasta (not on the menu, but they made it for us), and a hot fudge sundae. All very good and one of our favorite meals.

Turns out the guys in back of us were MK CM's and we went to visit one of them at Big Thunder Mt and he was so happy to see us (and brought us around the exit and put us on the ride).

We will be going back!

What a great story and an even better lesson. Be nice to anyone you meet you never know who they are or what you may learn from them.. :smickey:

:teeth: Want to know an even better example of that? My 18yo DD and I ate dinner one night at Boma at AKL. Before dinnr we were outside looking at the animals and the CM who was outside struck up a conversation with us. He asked us where we were from, how long we'd been at WDW, what parks we'd gone to, etc, etc. I then asked him if he'd ridden Everest yet and how he liked it. He told us all about it and I casually mentioned that it was so hard being at AK on Friday and seeing and hearing all the people on Everest, but not being able to ride it. He then invited us to come back the next day and ride! We were SO excited that we were jumping up and down and I could hardly sleep that night (yes, I'm a big kid). We'd joked about finding a CM to bring us on the ride, but we weren't serious and we weren't hinting about riding it when talking with him. Just fell into our laps. We ended up waiting over 2 1/2 hours for the ride, but it was so fun and worth the wait (although I'll never wait that long again for a ride!).

My niece and I had dinner, at Sci-Fi, and thought it was good. We had 2 appetizers - onion rings and spinich/ artichoke dip, for our entree's niece had the salmon dish and I had the shrimp pasta dish...I forget what dessert was. Anyway we thought the food was good, our waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere is awesome! It wasn't a 5 star restaurant by any means, but I thought it was well worth it. :thumbsup2
