I was wondering if you have to have a ticket to a park if you want to do a character dinner? We weren't planning on going to Epcot, but wanted to do a character dinner at The Garden Grill. I am guessing we would have purchase a ticket to the park, but wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance.

If dining at a theme park restaurant, you must have a valid admission ticket.

So if we wanted to meet my husbands aunt for dinner at the Japan restaurant, she can't come in to eat unless she buys a ticket for the whole thing?

I think we'll meet her somewhere else. grrr....

If the restaurant is within the park gates, you must have a ticket to enter.

There are some great character meals at the resorts. You can go to those without a park ticket.

Chef Mickey's - Contemporary Resort
Ohana - Poly
Cape May - BC
1900 Park Fare - GF
Mickey's Backyard BBQ - Fort Wilderness

I agree with the PP. Character Dining at the resorts is a good option for your if you're not looking to purchase theme park admission. All restaurants within park gates require admission!
