Has anyone ever done this? Is it worth booking in advance and if so how long in advance do you need to book? (might have left it too late) We go 24th July and i think i've booked dis cove for 31st so would be looking to dine with shamu just after this.

I did this in March and loved it. I think we booked approx 3 months in advance via the Seaworld website. At that time there was only one available date but we were there over Easter so we thought it was probably because it was peak season.

Food was great, the interaction with the trainers was great. They spent time at each table answering questions. My two children had LOADS of questions and they were happy to answer them. After the dining experience there was priority seating for the Shamu show. We didn't realise that and had gone to the show earlier in the day.

Well worth it in my opinion and we got some great up close pictures of the killer whale.

how does this compare to the other seaworld dining experiences? there is a "shamu rocks dinner" as well i believe? which is best?

Lurking, not British, but thought I'd respond, hope it's ok.... Our family did the dinner two years ago in San Antonio. I would book as early as possible because we booked pretty late and were at a table fairly far away from the tank, relatively speaking- all were within 10-20 feet, so not a biggie if you've run out of time, still go ahead and do it if you can. The one at San Antonio had a very nice buffet- delicious food. It was totally worth it! My son loved the "baby Shamu" swimming in his own little space. You could walk right up next to him. The trainers did a private show for us in the holding tanks where the dinner was. It was short and sweet and we had to stand- good thing it was short ;) - and we have great pictures of the whales up close. And yes, we could ask questions as well.

We went to this in November 2007 at it was fab, we were surprised with the food it was pretty good too and there was lots to choose from. There is not a bad spot in the whole place and plenty of opportunity to take pics :) I would do this again :thumbsup2

Like Laumau says, the earlier you book the better chance of a table at poolside, as they are assigned when booking is made, although the second row of seats are fine as well.
We did this last summer July 18th, and it was a treat for my DD, but we all enjoyed it , and the food was very good and plenty of it
