Do "Adult" aged kids HAVE to eat off the adult menus? I was just looking through the menus, and wondering. DH likes sit-down restaurants best, so we try to do that once a day (when we travel - not at home lol). But I can't see our boys eating Calypso Marinated Tofu, Chipotle Rubbed Rotisserie Chicken, or Grilled Top Sirloin, ya know? They're Macaroni & Cheese guys all the way. Is there a solution?

Thanks,
: ) melinda

At table service restraurants they can still order from the children's menu. But at buffets, your 12 year old will be charged adult prices. We take our grandson with us often and he is 11, so we know this is his last year at buffets until his taste changes--he is also a chicken strip/mac and cheese guy too.

Most of the restaurants will let anybody order a child's meal, regardless of age. It's the buffets and all-you-can-eat places that will charge a 12 year old the adult price.

I'm glad to know - it was the table service menus I was worried about. At buffets I'm sure they'll be able find plenty to fill them up, so even if they have to pay adult prices it will probably be worth it. I was just cringing at the thought of paying $25 each for a fixed plate they won't even eat!

Now I'm just guessing on this, not having been there, but I'd think that Disney would welcome MYW dining plan kids eating off the children's menu if they're on an adult plan. It would benefit them cost-wise.

Here's another question:
Are buffets (like the Character meals at Crystal Palace for example) included in the MYW dining plan?

I'm in the same boat - I have a semipicky eater who is 12. Meat and potatoes are fine, but sauces and fancy stuff not so much. What I thought I may do (at the suggestions of others here on the board) is to pay for his choices off the kids menu (esp at counter services places - our table service choices will be ok for him I think) and then use his credits to have extra counter service meals for breakfast or something... :teeth:

My daughter just turned 12 and doesn't eat big meals, she's one of those that eats a lot of small meals all day. She actually eats less than my 9 and 7 year old daughters at meals. I already warned my husband that at a few restaurants she will be charged adult prices, even though she probably won't eat much. We'll do plenty of counter service for that reason, because it seems so wasteful to have so much food in front of her, and she takes 4 bites....then an hour later she wants something to eat! Why oh why do restaurants (in general) give such huge portions and not let a child order a child's meal if that's all they can eat....do they want American's fat? Hmmmm, there's a concept!
