Dining while watching a sporting event

I'm a huge Mets fan and I will be away on vacation @ WDW during the first few days of the playoffs (10/3-10/6). Fortunately for me, it is a certainty that the Mets will make the playoffs this year; however, the dates/times of the games will not be known until right before the playoffs begin. I'm trying to keep my schedule flexible so that when gametimes are announced I can make arrangements to be somewhere to see the game.

I can always head back to my off-site resort to see the game, but I was hoping for some suggestions on where to see such a major sporting event in WDW.

I imagine the ESPN club is a possibility, but I have never been there. Does it get very crowded for such events? Do you need to reserve a table well in advance? Can you stay for an entire 3 hour game?

I've also noticed on past trips that the Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian has a large screen TV, and they often times show sporting events. Does anyone have any more details about the tambu Lounge or any other restaurants or lounges/bars where I might be able to watch the game?

Thanks

The Outer Rim Lounge in the Contemporary has at least three large TV set, and usually they are set to sporting events.

I highly recommend the ESPN club. There are even TVs in the restrooms so you won't miss anything. Their food is awesome also. They have two seating areas: the bar and the restaurant. We only ate at the restaurant area. There are TVs everywhere.

DH went to ESPN one afternoon to watch UT (U of TX) and didn't say that there was a problem. He ordered beer/snacks at the bar and they flipped a set on the game for him.

Looks like I can relinquish my Play Off seats this year :sad2: so I can share some info. ESPN is great, but it gets very busy and they don't take reservations. Lines to get in can get long, so plan accordingly. If you have a car, the All Star Cafe at Disney's Wide World of Sports is another good option. I am not sure about transportation there without a car, but I am sure it can be arranged.

I watched a game at the Big River Grille Bar, and enjoyed it thoroughly even though it was on a regular sized TV. I have also watched a few innings in the Crew's Cup at the Yacht Club. I would guess most of the hotel lounges will have the games on. As a last resort, there is always your hotel room, but it's not nearly as much fun as a rocking lounge!

Good luck!

Never been but i heard the all star cafe at wide world of sports offers good food, has plenty of TV's and is not as crowded as ESPN.

On weekends during football season that place is crowded from the minute it opens.

As a Yankee fan, I some experience watching baseball play-offs :rolleyes1
ESPN club is great, but it gets CROWDED, espcially if you're competing with NFL and college football.
My Dad and I like to bar-hop in Downtown Disney as well. Most of the bars have tv's, and they're not as crowded. I always seem to be in WDW when the Yankees play the Red Sox, and the game has always been on, and if it's not, the bartenders have no problems changing the channel because there's no one there for me to compete with!
We went to the All-Star Cafe once to see a game. There must be 30 tvs at least in the dining room, and they were all on college football. We asked to have one, even a small one turned to baseball, and they refused! After taking a bus from POFQ to MGM, then from MGM to Wide World of Sports, we were more than a little ticked off.

Good luck to the Mets (until the World Series anyway)!
