Dining & Ticket question

I'm attending a conference that's being held at the Coronado Springs. Of course I'm extending our stay so I can get in time at the parks. I had to book the hotel reservations through the conference as they blocked off rooms. I was told that once my conference releases our names to the hotel, which should be Monday, I could then call up Disney and book tickets and Disney Dining.

Of course the conference will provide for my meals, but as my husband and I will be staying for longer, I really want the dining plan. I know dining must be booked in advance but tickets can be purchased and added to at any time. Is it possible to book the dining without booking tickets if I already have a room reservation? I really want to wait on the tickets because I know that often the conference will have access to discounted tickets. Thanks!

It is my understanding that the dining plan is only available with a MYW package...i.e tickets and room, or to DVC members staying on points. You could make a separate reservation to get it, but I am guessing that you will get a discounted room rate for the convention, and you already mentioned discounted tickets. You might not save anything by getting the MYW package depending on if you get that discounted rate for an extended stay...

Here is the info I was looking for. Taken from allears.net:

1. If you are a non-Disney Vacation Club member, you must purchase a Magic Your Way vacation package at a Disney resort for your entire party with at least one day's park admission. The number of days for the Dining Plan will equal the number of nights you have reserved your room on the package. It has nothing to do with the number of days of park admission you have.

2. If you are a Disney Vacation Club member staying at a DVC resort on points, you may purchase the Dining Plan. You must purchase the Dining Plan for everyone in your party. No purchase of park admission is necessary. The number of dining plan days will equal the number of nights of your stay.

BTW, enjoy your trip! DH and I LOVED Coronado Springs last year!

Plus, the Dining Plan must be purchased for all room occupants for entire length of stay. Since the Package Plan includes a room at rack rate and at least one day park admission must be purchased per person, you most likely would not qualify since you will be in a discounted room for the convention.

Will this trip be in 2007? I ask because there are also some changes to the Dining Plan for 2008.
