After a two year absence, we will visit the World next week for 7 nights. We are two "40-something" adults traveling w/o children. Looking for nice, adult dining w/concentration on quiet atmosphere and superior service. We've been to V&A and Chef de France in the past and of course loved them both! Looking for some new suggestions! After reading some of the posts, Jiko sounds nice, but where in the World is it ! ? !

what an excellent choice!! jiko is over at animal kingdom lodge. great way to visit that resort. i think you would be happy dining there. some other thoughts i had are artist point at wilderness lodge and narcoossee's at the grand floridian. how about the yachtsman steakhouse at the yacht club? of course there is california grill at the contemporary. all of these are at resorts. hope this helps. have a great trip!:p

I highly recommend Flying Fish on the Boardwalk. We like to sit at the bar for dinner, if Anderson is working. It's also fun to sit at the other counter right in front of the wood burning grill and watch the chefs do their thing.
We are not seafood eaters but we love Flying Fish for the steak, the chicken, and the pasta!

We like Spoodles on the Boardwalk too.
We try to have dinner later than usual when we are at Disney World. We understand it's a place for family vacations and children but sometimes....!
It can be discouraging to spend big $$$ on a meal and be surrounded by screaming kids and parents. One night in Flying Fish, 2 little girls constantly ran around the restaurant, squealing and laughing, sometimes fighting! Their sandals ended up in the middle of the aisle way in the back of the room, no where near their own table. The server almost tripped on the sandals and had to bring them to the parents. The parents were oblivious, just sitting back enjoying their wine. I was so tempted to say something to them, it nearly ruined our evening.

So, we have been trying to eat around 9:30 or so and it's much more pleasant. That's really late for us but we enjoy it so much more. We take a nice walk all around the lake after dinner.
We also like to go to Atlantic Dance on the Boardwalk. We don't dance but the hall is beautiful and the bands are always great. The last 2 we have seen have been Rock bands, it's not a Latin music place anymore.
Most people love JellyRolls on the Boardwalk too. It's a dueling piano bar, like Howl at the Moon, which we have here near us at home. It's just not our cup of tea.

The Belle Vue Room is the lounge in the Boardwalk, right above Flying Fish. It's a very nice place to relax, inside or outside on the balcony.

Have a great time!!!

Here are some recommendations that DH and I enjoyed on our trip and what meal was eaten there:

GRAND FLORIDIAN CAFE-BREAKFAST
SAN ANGEL INN-DINNER (EXCELLENT ATMOSPHERE!!! EXCELLENT!!!)
RFC (AK)-BREAKFAST (great way to start the day in the AK having breakfast with the animals....real or not! ;) )
HOLLYWOOD BROWN DERBY (MGM)-DINNER (OUTSTANDING FOOD AND SERVICE!!)

The other places we dined were a little noiser and interactive but we enjoyed them. I'm getting the feeling that you're looking for quiet and relaxing. I do hope these have helped and that you will try a few. DH and I did 9 days and 8 nights of dining through Disney....WOW!!! It was so much fun, but I'm not sure I can eat that much food again. :teeth:

HAVE A BLAST and let us know what you chose.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I think we'll zero in on Jiko, Flying Fish, Spoodles & the Brown Derby for starters. And probably add either Le Cellier or Yacht Club Steakhouse for our red meat cravings! Come to think of it, I think we'll have to repeat Chef de France....I just love that place!

I suppose the one thing common to any WDW restaurant is that there will always be plenty of kids at most every restaurant--except perhaps V&A. Most seem rather well behaved (considering), but most every trip we always see at least one case of outrageous behavior as described by montessori. So I guess the "quiet atmosphere" condition will be a relative thing--

But anyway--Jiko's would be an excellent choice!!
I can also recommend Citrico's, Palio, Portobello Yacht Club, Shula's, and YSH.
Narcoosee's, Artist Point, and Flying Fish are fine spots too--but have always seemed to me to be "louder" than their counterparts.

We are also to 40 somethings...we love great food/wine.

Our favorites are, Artist Point at WL, Jiko at AKL, Flying Fish,
House of Blues, Portobello Yach Club, San Angel Inn (EPCOT), Ankerhaus (EPCOT).

Enjoy!
