Dining Reviews - Solo Trip (LONG)

I'm going to have to give your second option a try. I've never driven in Florida, either, and probably never will. Part of being on vacation -- for me -- is leaving the driving to others, but I really would like to have breakfast at Boatwright's, sometime.

thank you for your reviews. We love breakfast at Boatwrights too. Always good food and wonderful service!

Wondered if you had any trouble with getting less than favorable seating since you were alone. My pre-teen daughter and I always go in December w/o DH due to his work. We go as a family in May or June. My DD and I have often commented to ourselves on the tables we get when DH is not with us. Last December we were offerred a table by the kitchen door at Wolfgang Pucks and and another undesireable spot at Rose & Crown. We politely asked if we could get another spot or we would prefer to wait abit longer. Maybe just being overly sensitive but having DH along sure seems to get us better tables!

Hmmm, trying to remember where I was seated...

Boatwright's stands out as the best. I was on the upper level, right next to the (working) fireplace. The morning was just a bit chilly, and the fireplace felt wonderful - and provided part of the homey, welcoming atmosphere I enjoyed that day.

Matsu No Ma was also good. I can't recall if I chose the table or if I was directed there. I had a view of the temple-type building and the adjacent garden.

Le Cellier wasn't great. I was just inside the entrance to the restaurant. The room was set up with the tables for larger parties on the sides and 3 tables set for two right in the center - almost a divider line between the halves of the room. Servers bringing and removing plates tended to pass me on one side going out of, and on the other side going back into, the kitchen. I was not seated next to the kitchen at all, but was definitely in the middle of the traffic flow. Since this was the only location set up with smaller tables, it would appear that solo diners would get "stuck" here - but then so would couples as well. I don't know if this is standard practice or just the way the tables were arranged that night.

'Ohana also placed me near the kitchen, in a far corner away from but in sight of the fire pit. I was at the one of the turns when the children ran the coconut races. I love the family fun aspect of 'Ohana and had no issues with my seating, but if I were unaware of the activities and had hoped for a quieter experience, the table location would have been annoying.
