Dining Reports 8/05-8/09

Monday Dinner was at Ohanas. We LOVED it. They brought us a tray of "starters" and placed it on the lazy susan on the table. Starters included veggies, fried rice, chicken wings and diping sauces (BBQ, peanut and fruit.) Dinner was meat on sticks-very delicious. Dessert was pineapple and caramel sauce. Yum. I highly recommend this place. If you can't get Cindy's for dinner, this is a great place. The Poly is right on the monorail, so it is very accessible to anyone visiting the MK.

Tuesday Breakfast was at 1900 Park Fare. It was fairly unremarkable. There was a lot to choose from, but we were too excited to eat. The biscuits and gravy were delicious as was the mini-Mickey waffle.

Tuesday Dinner was at Cindy's was GREAT! The prime rib was delicious and so was the horseradish sauce. This was by far one of the best meals we had during our stay. They even gave us souvenir glasses b/c it was our HM.

Wednesday Dinner was at Tony's in the MK. We were supposed to go to Alfredo's but there was a HUGE storm and we were too skittish to venture very far. I was very disappointed. The prices are too high for the quality. $18 for a plate of spaghetti! Also, one of the specials of the day was a Caesar salad but our server did not tell us this at all. We overheard another server telling her table about this special. This made me sad b/c Caesars are my favorite.

Thursday lunch was at the 50s Prime Time Café. Our waiter did not get into the whole shtick. The fries with gravy and onion rings were delicious, but we were both under whelmed with our steak sandwich and BBQ chicken sandwich. I liked that the dessert menu came on a View Master.

Thursday Dinner was at Le Cellier steakhouse at Epcot. This was our best meal of all. I had the filet and DH had another steak. The mashed potatoes were delicious. I also had the cheese soup. It was soooooo good. I highly recommend this place. It was after this meal that we began to plot our return to WDW.

Friday lunch was Restaurant-asaurus at the AK. I got the BBQ ribs. There was no BBQ on them. However, they did fall right off the bone. The food smelled good walking past Tusker House, but picky ol' DH wanted a hot dog.

Friday dinner was at the Yachtsman's Steakhouse. I did not enjoy it nearly as much as Cindy's and Cellier. Our steaks were medium, but the outside was well done and burnt. My stomach hurt for hours afterwards Plus, it was a pain to get to the restaurant. I wouldn't go there again.

I highly recommend the Discovery Magic package. It is not so good for people with young families, since children must order from the children's menu (more difficult to get more than your money's worth) but for everyone else, it's great. We ate so many nice (i.e. expensive) meals with our wishes.

Also, get the free refill mug from your resort's snack bar. It's $10 and you get free refills.

BabyMo,

Thank you for the wonderful dining review. I too will be using the Discovery Magic Pacakge for my upcoming honeymoon in October. I read that you had dinner at Cindy's. How much did it cost for you and your DH? I am now debating whether I should dine at Cindy's or Artist Point at WL on the night we visit MK, especially there will be Spectromagic and Fireworks on that night.

I hope you got some "honeymoon" pixie dust during your stay.

Jean

Jean,

Our dinner at Cindy's was around $100. This included soup for him, salad for me, two prime ribs, two cokes, two desserts and tax and tip.

It was great-- they gave us a table by the window to see the fireworks and we got souvenir glasses and everything. I would definitely go there during your HM.

Thanks for the reviews, I enjoyed reading them. :)

Hi Baby Mo! Thanks for sharing your dining experiences with us!! :) Also, thanks for your comment about the Discovery Magic package. My boyfriend and I will be using this package when we visit WDW in November, and I was wondering how this is working out for people.

One question- Did you have any difficulty using your Discovery Magic plan for dining?

Congratulations on your marriage!! :teeth:

I guess getting to YSH w/o a car can be a bit difficult--but not much they can do about their own location.
But serving steaks like that is a major faux-pas, especially at a Steakhouse that considers itself upscale. Hope you said something to your server??
Just hope the "ups" of your meals outweighed the "downs"--

BabyMo,

I feel the same way as you do about Tony's. We went last year before MVMCP and I thought it was very overpriced and was disappointed in the menu. Not very much to choose from. We had gone there in '97 and really enjoyed it, but I think we'll be skipping it from now on.

Glad to hear you liked LeCellier. We are going for the first time in October and are really looking forward to it. This is going to be our splurge dinner for our trip.

Queenofhearts,

Discovery Magic is so easy to use. We didn't even have to tell them we were using it. We just handed our card to the server and everything was taken care of.

The server at Tony's got snippy with us and told us that we should have told her because we could have had EXTRAS like a smoothie. As if an appetizer, entree, dessert and drink was not enough for geedy BabyMo and her husband.

I don't think I could go back and NOT use Discovery Magic. It was great. It might not be so great for people with families since children have to order from the children's menu, but otherwise.....

Uncleromulus,

I was so busy eating the crushed potatoes that it did not bother me so much. It was our last night and we were sad about leaving....if we did not have Discovery Magic and I had just paid $32 for a burnt filet......then they would have heard from me.

mazzarafe,

You will LOVE Le Cellier. Be sure to get the cheese soup. It's delicious.

Thanks for taking the time to post your food reviews. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Babymo,

I have one more question for you. To use the card, do you need to show them at the beginning of your meal or at the end?

thanks.

Jean
