Two adults for an anniversary trip, 9 days of spectacular eating around the world. We only ate and drank whats listed in the review. There will be 4 total reviews. 3 separate ones for the sit downs and a final one with all snacks and counter service.
Day 4: Dinner at Jiko This was simply superb, from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. I started with a glass of the Faithful Hound, a really fine robust red which was not too dry. Art had a Shiraz that I cant remember the name of right now. We started with the Kalamata Olive Flat Bread, it was full of flavor and positively delicious. The olives melded perfectly with the five cheeses and sent our taste buds dancing. For our entrees we both ordered the Oak Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Macaroni and Cheese. This may well have been the single best steak I have had in my life. It was tender and cooked to perfection. The red wine reduction sauce had a hearty flavor that added to both the steak and the macaroni & cheese. The macaroni and cheese in and of itself was a triumph with Gruyere and a variety of other cheeses that came together in culinary perfection. After all this perfection we asked to speak to the head chef to compliment him. We spoke with him for a good twenty minutes and he recommended to us the dessert sampler. 5 small samplings of their best desserts. Just enough for a bite or two each for Art and me. The dessert included Briouates, Afrikaanse Milk Tart, Pistachio Crème Brulee, Sorbet and a chocolate something that I just know was delicious. We left Jiko stuffed and happy. The atmosphere was beautiful and romantic. Our waiter was superb. The food was beyond words. We will be here again next trip without a doubt. 10 out of 10. Price with tax: $111.04
Day 5: Dinner at Ohanas We were seated by a window with a beautiful view of the volcano pool and the castle away from all the games. We stopped for our banana bread on the way to the table. Once seated our tray of appetizers was brought out almost immediately. Everything on the platter was tasty. I really enjoyed the salad with Honey Lime dressing. Art really enjoyed the Honey Coriander Wings. We both loved the Shrimp Vegetable Wontons and the Fried Rice. The big thrill for both of us was the dipping sauces, the peanut was the agreed upon favorite at our table. We each tried a little piece of each meat to start. My favorite was the shrimp. Arts was the steak. All the meats were very tasty, but I found the steak a tad dry. I had more shrimp than I care to remember and my guess is Art would say the same about the steak. We really enjoyed the fresh pineapple with caramel dipping sauce. I just wish I had more room. We both had water to drink with dinner. We will be back here, probably next trip. 8 out of 10. Price with tax: $50.86
Please let me know if you have any questions. The next one will hopefully be up shortly.
