Dining Ressies for uncommitted friends?

Our dining ressies will be available on April 8th. We have some friends that have been planning on going with us since last fall. Now last week they informed us they might not go. I'm a little frustrated because I am a 180 day dining ressie planner. Now I don't know whether to make ressies for 3 or 6. Anyone ran into this problem have some ideals?

I would go ahead and make the ressies I wanted for 6. You can always call and change them for 3. It is easier for you to take 3 away from your ressie than to add 3 more to your ressie. (Just make sure you do it in your 24 hour deadline!)

Make your reservations for the maximum number of people that might be dining. It is always easier to show up at the restaurant with fewer people than it is to try and add people later if they decide to come. When you arrive at the restaurant just let the CM at the podium know there are only 3 of you. If it is a restaurant with a credit card guarantee you won't be charged for the missing diners as long as at least 1 person shows up for the reservation.
