I'll be staying on property (S&D) the first week of March and sadly only have one reservation booked. It was booked recently so we missed the ADR window.

It seems that nearly everything we'd want is unavailable and I'm wondering what the best strategy is to try and get a few desirable reservations. Is it just a matter of continuing to check the app for openings or checking walk-up availability the days we'll be there...or something a bit more strategic?

Thanks!

24 hours before check in the flood gates open as people cancel before getting billed for no shows. I never had much luck with walk ups.

Keep monitoring frequently for the really important ones. There are also online alerting apps you could investigate and pay a few bucks for - they'll notify you (and 1000 other people) when a reservation comes open around the time and place you seek. I agree with lowlight - check very closely 24-48 hours before you want a particular reservation. Things do open up when people cancel to avoid credit card penalties for not showing up.

What they said _ just randomly checking for a party of 4 for dinner tomorrow I saw Be Our Guest, Chef Mickeys, Storybook, several other hard to get reservations. I've pretty much always been able to get last minute reservations. I've noticed more people start dropping in the evening and I believe you can drop up to 12 am same day.

Yes, just keep checking - especially the days leading up to your vacation. People will drop ressies (sometimes they're holding mult. on the same day) as they tighten up their plans. The 24 hour canc. window is clutch. Also, if you can, be flexible. We dropped a Steakhouse 71 reservation a few days ago (just wasn't feeling it) and walked up to the Grand Floridian Cafe instead for lunch - sat outside, had the best service, and the meal was the greatest value propositon of our entire trip.

The one reservation that was tougher than I anticipated was Beaches & Cream. I think it's just too small (despite the reno in which it tripled in size) and the demand is too high. Fortunately, I was flexible on days & was able to get it at least once during our trip. It is feasible to order ice cream from the to-go window though so hey - you can steal dine here.

Also, don't underestimate the restaurants at Disney Springs if you have time to dine there. I personally think they are better quality service-wise and better value. Morimoto this past week really blew us away. The quality of the food, the options (versus Disney restaurant menus being so ltd), the service, and the price pts made us question pretty much all the other signature restaurants we dined at during the trip. I feel the same about Wolfgang Puck, Jaleo, Raglan Road, Boathouse and Homecomin (although both of these may be tricky to get), and so many more.... If you are serious about a DS restaurant, try their online ressie system (most of these use OpenTable, for example) or even call the restaurant directly.

The restaurants at your resort are also really good as well. Close by, Trattoria al Forno always seems to have ressies (dinner) & the reviews have been outstanding lately. Ale & Compass bfast is back and always gets good reviews. Cape May buffet just ropened/or is about to & because it was reintroduced, you might be able to snag a ressie there. Same with Flying Fish.

I am planning to go that week too. I cannot get any ADRs for any of the places I wanted. In fact, I got a list of 8 available options with about 350 unavailable options. :( I have celiacs disease, so I do need to plan ahead. I can't just grab something anywhere. No, I did not do it at midnight 60 day this year because with Covid, Genie + changes and the terrible park reviews I am reading, I wasn't sure that early. I thought we were going at 'lower' season. Guess not. I even tried to move our reservation to AKL, so we can have nice restaurants with actual chefs to help me for dinners, but I can't get those either. I'm discouraged. I am still wavering about cancelling the whole trip because everything sounds like a pain in the butt this year, but I already told my sons we would go... Sorry to be a downer this morning.

I can relate...for what's typically an off-peak week, it's been as challenging a trip to plan as I've ever had, especially regarding dining. I've never seen so few available options as I'm seeing now and it's a bit discouraging.
