Dining Question

Let me ask a question of you Disneyland veterans... I know that the rest of my group will not want to spend every free moment in DL. But, I was thinking maybe we could plan a portion of a day/evening when we can all mesh our schedules. If we do this, I am wondering about making reservations for dinner somewhere in the park. You would think that with my most recent trip there I would have all this already firmly in my head, but I don't! Would Blue Bayou make the most sense for an unforgettable meal there? My DH and I didn't eat there in August and there is no other place that jumps out at me right now as a place that would be a good choice. Well... we LOVED the Napa Rose restaurant at Disney's Grand Californian, but that may not be the best "bang for the buck" place since it would require a LOT more bucks.

well, noone's argued with me yet when i say i consider blue bayou to possibly be the best disney themed restaurant between DLR and WDW. it's pretty much considered a must do at least once, so i suspect that might be your answer right there.

I love the Blue Bayou but another choice that is always a hit with our group is Ralph Brennan Jazz place in DTD!

How soon do you make your reservations? We would like to have lunch at the BB on Feb. 9th. Is it 30 days out or 60? What is the number to call? I'm worried about not getting in!!!

It is way past time for me to make reservations, but I couldn't do anything until I had received my itinerary. I may not get in either! Priority Seatings can be made 6 weeks out for park eateries and 60 days for restaurants in the resorts, I believe.

Second the idea for Ralph Brennans Jazz Kitchen (not the fast food part - but the actual restaurant). The food was delicious! It was pretty easy to get a reservation, too. It isn't horribly expensive, and since its in Downtown Disney you wont have to fight the park crowds to get there. So if BB doesnt work for you, try the Jazz Kitchen.

I will indulge my heresy bone and state that I find the food at BB to be infinitely forgetable. I would do the buffet at Storytellers, Hook's Pointe or (if your group is whimsical) Goofy's Kitchen. GK is more about fun than food but the food was easily as good as BB and the experience was priceless.

That's the second time I've seen that idea today, the 6 weeks thing, and I don't think it's right...


Blue Bayou is certainly unforgettable! DS and I really did not like our food (I did like the wedge salad even though they didn't make it without all the sausage as I needed), but I really want to go again. DS is in an anti-POTC phase (he thinks the skeleton pirates are going to jump in the boat) but wants to eat in the restaurant. No matter if you like it or hate it, it's unforgettable!!!

I tend to agree with you, as far as my memory goes. It has been a couple of years since I last ate there. I have eaten at GK and was not impressed. Besides, some of our group will be 14 and 17 yr old boys....
Therefore, Storytellers is probably not the right choice either, although it looked interesting as we passed it by last summer when we were at the Grand Calif.

Hook's Pointe was one place my DH and I had considered but we ran out of days to eat last summer. I will look into that possibility too. Thanks!

The reason you are probably reading this occasionally on the Boards is that our very own DIS offers this info on the DL Dining page:

* = Priority Seating reservation can be made 6 weeks advance for dining located within Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks and 60 days in advance for Resort Hotel dining by contacting your travel agent or by calling 1-714-781-DINE (3463) - Prices subject to change

And, I am in agreement with you and your DH concerning the atmosphere of BB. That is the unforgettable experience I was looking to give my students and their parents. I am still thinking it is our best bet unless we can't get a PS!

Storytellers is not as kiddy oriented at dinner. It's a nicer and more adult buffet than GK and there are menu options as well. It's a nice sit down meal rather than a character meet and greet.
