Dining plus 40% off?

Can I still purchase the dining plan at regular cost even though I got the 40% off on the room rate? I understand that I would need to buy at least a 1-day ticket to make it a package, but I didn't know if the 40% discount cancels out the option of puchasing the dining plan at all.

I used the 40% off code and was able to book as a package with dining. I think the 3 letter codes were different, though. One for room only, one for a package, and one for pkg w/ dining.

Yes, I got the 40% off my room and added the dining and tickets. It's a great deal.

You would need to make that decision on dining probably BEFORE the March 15th booking cut off for the 40% off deal.

If you have booked room only right now - they have to cancel that reservation and book all over again with the 40% off room code... that includes a package with dining. Since they would be cancelling the old reservation and starting again - you would need to do that BEFORE the booking cut off date.

I know what you're saying, but I think they would probably let you add the DP and tickets at any point; more money for them and more of a chance that you won't venture offsite for meals. When I added the DP last year I kept the same reservation number, which makes me think they didn't have to cancel and rebook my room. It may be different with a discounted room though...

I booked the DP with 1 day tickets and 40% off.

The 40% code was emailed or sent by postcard to a lucky few by Disney. As it gets closer to your trip a code for the general public may come out that anyone can use. THe last two years have had general public codes for Aug and Sept for free dining. You had to pay for the package (room and tickets) and then the added the dining plan for free. A good place to learn about codes is mousesavers.com or keep reading these boards.

I also wanted to add that the time of year you travel will have a lot to do with discounts available. If you travel over spring break, mid summer, other holiday periods, etc there will be fewer chances for discounts. There are AAA discounts for different times of the year that any member can take advantage of. If you have a Disney Visa there have been specials offered in the past as well.

If you received the pin code via e-mail or snail mail, you should have no problems in changing your room only reservation to a package which would include the dining plan. You would get the 40% off of your room rate only (just as you have now.)

If you did NOT receive a pin code directly from Disney, then I would leave your reservation alone and let sleeping dogs lie. Some people have reported have problems changing their reservation if they did not receive the pin code.

I spoke to a CM today about adding dining and tickets. I booked a room only ressie and was told if I decided to add tickets and dining I must do so 3 days before my arrival date. Hope that helps!
