The dining plan itself is still there, but you had to check in by like the 2nd or 3rd in order to get the FREE plan. We just returned last night, and it was very crowded. I would HATE to go in June if this is supposedly light. Yesterday some of the waits were 70-80 minutes in Tomorrowland. We even waited 10-15 min. to get on Stitch and Buzz w/a Fastpass. It was a Sat., but all week there were quite a few people there.
I can't believe it was all free dining people either, maybe it was though!
It's not clear, though, that crowded restaurants were at all related to free dining. There have been discussions here on the DIS for almost a whole year, far longer than free dining has been offered, about how many restaurant reservations are becoming very hard to secure, and restaurants being commensurately crowded. I think people are just deciding to eat out more, and more upscale than before. Perhaps it's a little more "you only live once" philosophy propagating around.
