If your dining plan includes an appetizer or dessert, do you have to get it at the same time as dinner or can it be separate? How do you know what you used and what is left with your plan?

I'm pretty sure you have to have the appetizer at the same time as your sit down meal. Your appetizer will arrive first before dinner...

When you use a credit, either for a table service or quick service, the remaining credit balance will be on your receipt...

I also bet with the new My Experience that Disney has you can probably find out via the cell phone app.. (not sure though). But I know it's on the receipt.

The total balance of remaining credits are always at the bottom of your receipt. You can also have a print out done at the front desk at your resort. The question about the appetizer or desert, are you asking if the meal can be split & appetizer done elsewhere or desert later after you've left the restaurant as a stand alone? If that is the question, the simple answer is no. The meal as your credit allows is done as a single sitting.

If I'm mistaken.. I'm sure someone will be alone shortly to correct me. ;)

Yes, you have to use the entire CS or TS credit at one time. There is no way to "save" part of a credit to use later on. If you choose not to order a dessert or beverage or an app (on the DxDDP) at the time you use the credit, you will lose that part of the credit.

At some of the food courts in the resorts that have ice cream as a dessert option, you have to tell the cashier you want ice cream when you purchase your entree and beverage. Your receipt will be marked with a time limit (about an hour) so that you can come back for the ice cream when you're ready for it. This way you won't have a melted dessert, but there's no way you can go back several hours later or go elsewhere to get your dessert.

As far as knowing how many credits you have left, every food receipt will print the number of remaining TS or CS or snack credits. It's always a good idea to check when you get the receipt to make certain it is correct.
