On our last trip we purchased the dining plan. it was well worth it because 2 of our children were considered children. This time we are 5 adults so I am not so sure it will be worth the $$$ Then I thought of the counter service dining plan would be a good idea because table service takes up a lot of time. Now I see DVC members are not eligible for this dining plan, is that true?

DVC members can buy any of the three Disney Dining Plans, the quick service plan, the basic or regular plan or the deluxe dining plan.

The Premium and Platinum package plans are not part of the Disney Dining Plans - they're all-inclusive recreation AND dining plans and are available only with package reservations.

We paid for the DDP on our last week-long stay. I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu each time, recorded the "would-be" cost of the meals had I not been on the DDP (Table, Counter, and Snack), and the total cost paying a-la carte would still have been cheaper than what we paid for the DDP.

In my opinion, the DDP is not for everyone. If you like Character meals that are commonly buffets, or if you have young kids (3-5 or so) who cannot possible eat all that food, then the DDP is not worth it. If you like nice restaurants that less "Disney" and more like a restaurant you'd see in your home town, or if you want to eat a lot of food the whole time, then it could be worth the money. The more you go to Le Cellier, the better deal it becomes.

For the vacation style of my family, financially speaking, I'll never pay full price for the DDP again.

thank you for the replies. Since my two youngest are picky eaters I don't think we will purchase the dp simply because it will be cheaper to purchase our meals. i like the convenience of having everything paid for but it just doesn't seem worth it. The sit down meals take up a lot of touring time. I have already booked the fantasmic dining package and I think we will book chef mickeys or garden grill.

Also, back in 2007 and prior, gratuity was included in the DDP. That was a nice benefit, making the DDP a better deal. In 2008 or so, that changed. Now that ~$10 per meal add-on applies to both methods.
