dining plan, tipping?!??

With the new dining plan, how do you do the tipping? Does it automatically? or do you leave a cash tip?? Not sure if we will do the dining since the plan has changed so much.

I was told by someone that they automatically add it into your bill, like 15%. Then its charged to your room?!?! I dont want to do that I want to pay cash for the tips. Does anyone know?

For partys of 6 or more they add 18% automatically to your bill. Under 6 you get to tip the amount you want 15-20 percent of the bill is a norm for good service.

is an under 3 classed as part of the 6 people, even though they will be eating off the adult plate etc? don't get me wrong not trying to avoid tip, will be tipping but just want to know whether to expect it on the bill already or whether we will be required to add on afterwards.

The only thing that is tough about the over 6 rule for us is that we are on 2 seperate packages, 2 dining plans...We are a party of 8 and will get 18% based on our overall bill and they may eat more expensively then us one night and us another...

I know this gratuity is common practice all over, but with the dining plan it just stinks a bit.

True but you won't have a choice what to leave with partys of 6+ its added to your bill and that is what you have to pay. With less then 6+ it shows the amounts on the bottom but they don't add it to the bill.

yup, 6 is 6. even if that child is asleep and not eating, the child could even ne 2 weeks old, its still 6.

But if you're on 2 packages, you should have the server split your bill so that each party is paying for their meals with their own credits. Then you will be billed 18% of what you ordered, not what your friends ordered.

Some people pay the tip with cash, credit card, or their room key, others have paid with Disney Dollars while on the Dining Plan.

I know I will catch heck for this, but my meal can cost me $300 and if I have terrible service I am not paying them $60 for a tip. They might not even get $30, service is the key with me and I have had some terrible service in the past even at Disney.

So if you are a party of 2, the tip is not automatically added to your bill? Do they give you a suggested amount to tip to use as a guide? I wonder how many waiters get stiffed because people don't realize that the tip is no longer included... I understand eliminating the appetizer, but I think getting rid of the tip was a mistake.

You can have the server give separate checks for the two separate packages. Agreed you will still be charged the 18% , but it will be only on your own family's cost, not the cost of the entire table.
CM's are used to splitting up the check, you just have to tell them ahead of time when you all sit down at your table for 8.
Update: We paid our tip with cash. When you get the bill you just write CASH along the authorized tip line...

I have figured 15% for the tips and I have the $ in the "thank you " tip envelopes, and if the sevice is better, then I will add more cash with the envelope..
