Has anyone had the dining plan while having a stay with 2 different hotels?

You could do it but it would be two seperate reservations that would need tickets on each. You would pay less for tickets staying in the same place for the length of your stay. How many days did you plan on going?

We are doing a split stay in Oct. (4 days OKW 6 days POP). We paid for the 10 day stay @ POP for the free dining. Rented points from a DVC Owner on the DIS for 4 nts @ OKW and still ended up saving over $1000 instead of staying all 10 days at a moderate.

It seems like we will have a "vacation in a vacation" by switching. Have never done it, but DH LOVES to "resort hop" we'll see if I do too. have fun!! :wave2:

We plan on 7 nights and would be going after the free offer.

I just think it is wrong to be charged extra just because you are staying in 2 of their hotels.

You could call & double check but I'm pretty sure this is the way it would have to be done.

My DH just told me he wants to do a split stay next year again. I have an AP & the rest of my family have 3 days of passes left so I'm going to do the DP with 1 day passes for the 3 nights at BC & a room-only reservation at the Polynesian. The credits do not expire until midnight of the day you check-out & I'm pretty sure I can make the credits stretch into the fourth night. Maybe something like this could work for you too.

We called and checked. i wanted split our stay between POP and AKL or Wl. They said if we did then we would have to buy at least one ticket for the second "resot" because it would be two diffrent resorts. i called 3 times and got the same answer every time. Someone also mentioned that might have to do with the number of nights you are staying that it would have to be over 5 and we are staying 8 so that is not the problem :confused3

Why should someone be penalized because they would like to experience more than one Disney resort? Nowhere on their website does it say there will be extra charges for those wanting the dining plan and are staying at more than one resort(at least I did not see this anywhere). We are not getting this plan for free so why can't they just charge us for the Dining plan???????

You have two separate reservations, therefore two separate packages.
In order to add on the MYW Dining Plan, you must purchase a package.
The plan is tied to the number of Resort nights, not the number of ticket days.

Say you're staying at Pop Century for four nights, then moving to AKL for four nights.
You purchase a package consisting of: Four nights Pop; four night MYW dining per room Guest; and ten day park hopper passes (best buy).
You purchase another package consisting of: Four nights AKL; four night MYW dining per room Guest; and one-day base ticket - which you hold onto and upgrade during your next visit.
Why Disney can't just charge you for the dining plan is that then you're not purchasing a package - THE prerequisite for eligibility for the MYW dining plan.

So you think it is fair for them to charge extra just because you are staying in two hotels? Not everyone has the opportunity to hold onto an unused ticket and use it later because they do not know when or if they will get a chance to return. Yes it is two reservations because it is two hotels but the MYW package should not have to be charged twice. People should be charged the MYWD the same with one or more hotels.

I don't see a problem with this at all. Once you blur the line by not requiring everyone to purchase a package (that's essentially what you're asking for if you are coming from another resort) then everyone is going to expect that treatment. Does it really make sense, no, but I understand why they are doing it. Is it fair that DVC member who have invested a good amount of money in disney can't add on the dining, no, but disney has chosen (as it always has) to allow only "Package" holders to benefit from its dining plans. If you don't think you should have to buy a one day ticket b/c you want to switch resorts, then don't. It's your choice. However I honestly think the money you'll save on the dining plan will more than outweigh the cost of playing along with disney's requirements and buying that one day pass.

Fair is in the eye of the beholder. First and foremost, Disney is a business and they are well within their rights to design and sell packages as they see fit. They're not 'charging extra', they are accommodating your desire to take what is essentially two vacations: one at one resort, one at another.

Personally, I would never want to do a split stay. To me, re-packing and moving to a new resort down the road/across the property is just a waste of my precious vacation time. I want to unpack once and be done with it.

No one is requiring you to split your stay, or having the dining plan on both halves of your reservation - so, no - I don't see that as penalizing guests. Disney offers a certain criteria for their packages and you make a choice based on that. I see lots of times where people will do the first night at one resort without any package stuff added on and then start their package first thing the next morning. That's another option for those who want a split stay, but don't want to buy an extra ticket.

I don't think it's not fair, which isn't the same as thinking it's fair.

It's Disney's package, and Disney's rules, and they're not forcing anybody to purchase the package. Even WITH the one-day pass you'd have to buy to make the second resort a package, it's still a good deal.
Let's say it's two parents, a twelve-year-old and a seven-year old staying at two different value resorts.
First package
Hotel = $345.07
Base tickets (3 adult, 1 child) for seven days = $806.22
Dining plan = $460
Total for first hotel = $1,611.29
Second package
First package
Hotel = $345.07
Base tickets (3 adult, 1 child) for one days = $178.38
Dining plan = $460
Total for second hotel = $983.45

TOTAL $2,594.74.

Yes, you do pay have to pay more to split hotels and be on the dining plan for your entire Disney trip. That is literally the price you pay for switching hotels.
