I will be having a split DVC stay at WDW in October. The split stay consist of 1 (AKK) , 3 (SRR), then 4 (BWV) days; all consecutive.

I have a TIW card, however, I am thinking about doing the dining plan for the first reservation since it is only for one day.

This would get us the refillable mug, we would use the table service that night, then the QS before midnight the next day.

I have read the refillable mug would be good for our entire stay. IS this correct?

What do you think? Is there a better way ?

It might be simpler to use your TIW card for all. You can buy the refillable mug at any resort quick service place, and it will last your whole stay. But I haven't run the numbers.

My thought was basically getting the value out of the two food credits and get the mug "free". Then use my TIW Card for the balance of the stay. Can you use the TIW card to purchase the refillable mug outright? I never have.

It was years ago, but SSR took the TIW discount for a mug purchase at Artist Point

And DDP mugs (and purchased mugs) should be valid for 14 days

Get the deluxe dining plan the first night and you can eat a TS meal on your check in day and 2 TS meals the next day.

This is my suggestion as well assuming you get in early enough to take advantage the first evening. Or get the deluxe for the 3 days and use them over 4 days. This is esp true if you have kids in the 3-9 age range.

Do you think that strategy is better than getting a TIW card ?

It depends. It will vary based on the restaurant choices, eating style and group mix. Ultimately one has to look at the situation and their usual choices and then decide. After you done at a few trips it really should be easier.

We do this often, esp when arriving for 1 night prior. But only if we can truly use the mugs. We find when we stay at BWV, we seldom use the mugs--too much of a hassle to get mug refills there. But if our switch resort is BLT, then we do it because of the mug refill stations. We don't drink sodas, so also depends if the grandkids are with us. We have done both the QS and the Delux. The mugs are always good for 14 days.
