Dining Plan, salad instead of appy?

Does anyone know if the dining plan allows you choose a salad instead of an appetizer? Or is salad considered part of your entree?

Most of the menus on allearsnet.com show appetizers/starters as soup, salad, chips/dip, shrimp cocktail, etc. As long as you're not choosing an appetizer/starter that's for more than 1 person (such as a sampler), you should be able to get it - you'll probably see most appetizers costing about $5-8. CMs are known to help you maximum the plan (and benefit themselves with larger tips based on the total bill!), so it doesn't hurt to ask when in doubt.
