Hello Everyone,

This is my first post and I have only just recently been bit by the "Disney bug." I have visited the parks each year for the last 2 years and looking forward to going back this October. I am looking at saving as much money as possible and was wondering about the dining plan. I am staying for a week this time, however I will be staying at a DVC for 2 nights with friends in the middle of my stay. My question is will I still be able to purchase a dining plan if I will be switching hotels in the middle of my stay? We will be staying on property the whole time and I was not sure about that.

Thank you :)

:welcome: Welcome to the boards Teresa

yes you can purchase the dining plan while staying at a dvc.

Search these boards though, for your first part of your question. The general consensus (sp) is that the dining plan is great for convenience but no longer is the most economical way to eat.

So if you are trying to really trim your food budget, go to allears.net browse the menus ( I pretend like I'm ordering) and see if it's the dining plan is really the cheaper option.

I just got back last Saturday from a 1 week trip. On the ddp if I ate the way we ate it would have run us about 207 bucks a day. Out of pocket my tab averaged 172 dollars a day so over the 6 night trip I saved 175 bucks by not doing the ddp.

Dining plans don't work well with split stays since they require tickets (e.g. you have to get the dining plan as part of a resort+ticket package...or as a DVC or Annual Pass stay). So you could do it for the first part and the second part of your stay, but the 3rd part would require new tickets...and that generally adds a lot of cost.

Enjoy your trip!!

The OP would not be able to have a dining plan for the DVC portion unless everyone staying in that DVC unit is also getting a dining plan. And just like other Disney packages that include a dining plan, everyone in the room has to be on the same version of the dining plan for the duration of the reservation.

IOW, if the OP's DVC friends are not getting a dining plan, then the OP cannot get one for the time that they are staying with those friends. If the friends want the DxDP and the OP only wants the DDP, it will not work. If the friends are getting a dining plan and staying in the unit longer than the OP, they would still have to pay for the dining plan for the OP for the nights that the OP is not there.
