Dining Plan Question

Here is my situation – there are 13 of us going. We have a room of 3, two rooms with 4, and a room with 2. All of us have the dining plan but the room with 2. That room has my MIL and nephew that belongs to one of the rooms of 4. Now my BIL wants to get the dining plan for his son (who is in the room with MIL), but does not want to force MIL to have to get it also (she is not sure she will get her value out of it). We have told him that she needs to because everyone in the room needs to be on the same “page” and he thinks that because his bill from the TA states that he is paying for his son with a special note that XXX is staying in XXX’s room he should be able to add just the dining plan for his son.
Can someone please confirm that I am right here, and if you know where on the Disney web page I can find this information – I have a message in with the TA to confirm and to call the BIL – but I know that he is going to give her a hard time. He gave my husband a hard time last night. And on a side note – he blames us that we are blacked out for the free dining! (going Dec 5-12) We picked these dates a couple years ago!
He thinks that Disney will do what he wants to do…
Thanks for any help and allowing the little vent.

Yes, I was told everyone in the room has to be on the same "package". This even applied to my husband who is not joining our group until 4 days into our trip, he still was required to have the same dining and length of park hopper as the rest of us.

Why not list the child in the room with 3 and have the mother-in-law in a room by herself?

The big difference would be that the child's room key would be for the wrong room, but this can be worked around.

I'd suggest, then, ordering the minimum tickets necessary for everyone, and then just upgrading the tickets for everyone except your husband once you're there.

Would he have to stay in that room - I don't want to look after an extra child (my room has the 3). And believe me my SIL would take every advantage of that.

No that's the point - as long as you are within the room occupancy, you can add him to the DDP room but he can still stay in the other room.

He won't be able to get into the room he is sleeping in without MIL. Not sure how old he is, so this may not be a problem at all.

His credits will be with your credits, so you will have to keep track of at least the snack and CS credits.

Problem - he is 3, but he can hang out with his actual family if she goes somewhere by herself - right, as long as he doesn't sleep in that room with 4 already?

What happens if the family of 5 want to eat somewhere else - we family of 3 have dinner reservations at Cinderella's Royal Table and they are not joining us. They would have to use one of thier cards and his to pay for their meal correct? Iam just trying to get this all straight in my head before I bring the suggestion up.

That would be correct. They would use their own card for four meals, and the child's card for the 5th.

You have to make sure to book him in the room with only 3 people in it, though - you won't be able to add him to one of the rooms w/4 unless it has an occupancy limit of 5 or unless one of the people in the room is 2 years old or less.

Whoever has this child with them for meals will also have to carry a key card for the room he is registered in. He's only 3 years old, so I doubt he will be carrying his own key card, or will be going into the room he is registered in unless his grandmother is there. You can always get an extra key for that room after you check in.
