Dining plan or not?

I have made several ADR's already and paid for the Hoop De Doo and The My Disney Girl Teaparty. I go back and forth on whether or not to add the dining plan. I have to do it soon if I am going to do it. I have planned on $200.00 a day and we are coming in on Feb. 24th (afternoon) and leaving on March 4th. We plan on eating breakfast bars or in the Pop food court for breakfast and a few nights we will either it again in the food court or order a pizza. The ADR's that I have made are with the Coral Reef, Ohana's, Rainforest, Chef Mickey's and Donald's breakfast. I am trying to get the Disney Dining Exp.card for the 20% off. Should I add the plan or just stick with my plans? :confused3 I am such a worry wart. We don't do credit cards and I don't want to take a whole bunch of cash.

Thanks!

I have to say I was very skeptical of the dining plan, until using it of course. We are picky eaters and do not eat 3 meals a day. This was so well worth it for us. You cannot beat the price. And we ate everywhere we wanted to eat on the dining plan with no problems at all. I vote dining plan! Have a great trip.

Definitely add the dining plan you will SAVE A TON and not have to worry about money everyday. Order what you want and ENJOY!!!! We wouldn't go without it.

How many people are in your party and what are their ages?

2 adults 2 kids(under 9) would be about 110.00 per day/ 880.00 for the trip. If you have budgeted and expect to pay 200/day then definitely go with the dining plan! You'll save a ton of money (even if you include some extra breakfast foods for your room and at the food court).
You may also find that you can share meals and not spend any money out of pocket for breakfast. We found that one breakfast platter easily fed 2 people. We ended up using 2 credits for breakfast and 2 credits for lunch and we NEVER went hungry - in fact, quite the opposite! :cool1:

Best of luck, whatever you decide!

Did I get the numbers wrong....someone just posted that 2 adults and 2 kids would cost $110 per day. But I thought it was $38 per adult and $11 per child....wouldn't that be $98 per day????

I agree it is well worth the money to get the dining plan. Tax,tip included was really nice not to have to worry about cost and money to pay for meals. We did leave an extra tip at TS meals as all of our waiters were great. But that is up to each person to do. The first few days we ate Breakfast in the room. Then we figured out that we could share cs meals as they are big and we obtained breakfast and lunch like the other OP stated . Sometime we even used a snack credit and got a fruit bowl at the Hotel, we still had snack credits left over when we were done. We took water into the park each day in a soft side cooler as we had a stroller. With DH and myself we will just use snack credits this time for water etc. :sunny:

pixiedust: we wouldnt go without it anymore. I definately vote for the dining plan, just another way to relax and really enjoy the magic.

Just a question are you getting tickets? to get the dining plan you have to get room + tickets + dining plan to make the package. Also you mention the my disney girl tea party. I don think you can use dining plan towards that in any way. Also hoop de doo takes 2 credits. You can get the money you already paid for it back when you let them know you are on the dining plan. However even with paying for these things seperately you should at worst break even with your 200 a day

Thanks everyone for the advice. I called and added it today. I figured that for once in our lifetime it will be nice to order anything and not worry about the cost. My DS will be thrilled also because he will get to order off of the "adult menu" finally. :yay:

Great! Glad you added it!

FYI: When I posted the dining plan is $110/day for 2 adults/2kids, I was including taxes. It's a habit I have - no nasty surprises that way!

You called and added it today? I was told I had to book it all at the same time, as it is part of a package. CM said I could not just book room and tickets (was still trying to decide about the dining plan) and add the dining plan at a later date.

Anyone else add it to their reservation at a later date?

Of course, I've received conflicting info before... the info you receive is only as good as the knowledge of the CM you are speaking to at the time.

I called and told the CM that it wasn't offered to me and I didn't know anything about it until reading about it on disboards. I did have to pay for it in full right then because I am within the 45 days but I am just so excited about it! :woohoo: Now I have to figure out how much cash we will need for just unexpected stuff. I have all of our ADR's! I am just concerned about Boma's because my son who is 10 and is considered an adult on the plan is a picky eater. I hope that he will be able to eat something. I think that the experience and trying something new will be worth it. ::yes::

I just wanted to give you a heads up on BOMA. They do have kids food on the buffet, and between that, the breads, and the desserts and fruit, your son should be able to fill up! Mine is also 10 and he was pretty willing to try some new things, along with the typical chicken fingers and mac and cheese. He loved the beef (I think it was Prime Rib) and he also enjoyed the chicken.

The food is not spicey as in spicey hot. It is just more savory, but not odd at all (at least I didn't think it was odd!)

Enjoy!
