We are renting points for April 11-20th and want to add the dining plan on at the same time. Our trip starts in one season and goes into another...so how do we figure out the total cost? I want to be prepared with $$$ we are 2 adults and 2 disney adults (kids 11,13) can anyone help me to figure out the 9 nights of basic dining plan, april 11 -20th

DVC members are not subject to the peak dining prices.

thank-you! I didn't know that the season didn't matter! so I will add up the cost of Regular season x 4 people, x the 9 nights we will be there correct?

Yes, that would be correct.

The DVC owner must add the dining plan you choose to the reservation (you can't do it yourself). It has to paid for in full when it is added to the reservation, so you'll have to work payment out with the owner.

You can make all of your own ADRs yourself.

Ok, question...we booked our DVC reservation through RCI. Can we call DVC direct for our dining plan? We were told that was an option, but wanted to be sure. RCI basically said we would be treated as the owners for the reservation. Anyone?? Thanks!

Yes, with an exchange into DVC, you would call MS yourself. The number is on the exchange documentation you get from RCI.

In brief, you will have to add the plan you choose for every member of your party and for the entire length of the exchange (I assume that is 7 nights). YO will pay when you add the plan to the reservation.

Has this been confirmed for 2012? Just wondering as I have 0 knowledge of how DVC works :p (I may be most-knowing about some other things, but DVC I'm as clueless as ... well, something really clueless!)

(As a note, I'm far from doubting that it is, I simply don't know. I understand tone can be difficult to read and I don't want to lend the impression that I don't believe the person, just checking for my own personal knowledge (and for when others ask)).

Cafeen,

On the 2012 DVC DDP brochure (I only looked up the regular DDP) it only lists one price and does not mention anything about being subject to seasonal pricing. I don't know if that is "written in stone" (although it is on the brochure, lol) since we both know that things get dropped from one year to the next.

Just as an aside for the sake of example, I just heard yesterday that DVC members can no longer segment their reservation to get different DDPs for different nights of their vacation, so things can seemingly change from moment to moment.

I guess that it could change but I have not heard anything saying that DVC will be subject to the seasonal DDP pricing going forward.

btw - I knew you weren't being snarky. :goodvibes

Sounds good to me!

It stinks about segmenting, wonder if they just decided that it got too confusing or that it wasn't worth the trouble for them (e.g. they were losing more money by allowing it than they would lose by forcing a single plan the whole stay, even if it was lower?) Or, it was just a test, as it was a pretty new thing wasn't it?

No idea why I'm asking so many questions, as I never plan on buying in and my typical trips are via DxDDP the whole time (as it's a focus for me), so it really doesn't affect me...

thanks everyone! So I'm wondering if it works out better to have the DVC member add on our DDP, VS just paying out of pocket? Especially to avoid the "peak" surcharge! We plan on 1 TS each day, and a counter service. Although we often do not get the dessert, it may work out a tad cheaper? So far we are interested in :
Boma D
Wcc D or L
Crystal Palace L
Cape May D
Le Cellier L
50's PTC L
Ltt D
Tutto L
YNY L or TH L
like I mentioned at the NON buffet places we tend to just get 2 desserts to share. So should we pay OOP or get the dining plan? We have always gone with it, but that is when we are booking a package at a Value..we are renting points at either BWV or AKV so the dining plan will be put on our credit card at the time of booking. :upsidedow

Anyone that is good with numbers have an opinion on this? We are booking today, and in the past the dining plan has been added on to the package and paid off little by little until the trip. This way we would have to pay IN FULL up front TODAY $1,855.44 for the dining plan for the 4 of us....would we be saving money or should we go OOP this year. Gotta admit it scares me, we have not gone OOP since ages ago.

With the buffets you have planned (I added TH lunch in), you're right at $700 (did some at peak pricing, others at normal since we don't know). So the question is, can you eat at your other TS and CS for $1155? Only you can answer that question by looking at menus and "ordering" what you think everyone will eat.

The other part of your equation of paying it in full now instead of little by little can still be a factor. If you decide to do OOP, you can begin buying Disney gift cards every month or so to stockpile to pay for your dining.

thank-you sharonabe! Its tough to say...the other TS could run another couple hundred?? I know that CS we could shave some $$ off of by not ordering the desserts and getting waters instead. What I'm worried about is once you add the Taxes onto the meals, there may be very little savings.Thank you so much for helping me wrap my head around this! I think getting the Disney gift cards is a great idea. Do you know if it is difficult to use them for dining? I could use them for the bill + tip right?

Just to be clear, you can add the dining plan anytime up to within the week of your arrival. The stipulations are: It can only be added by the dvc owner; it must be added prior to arrival; and it must be paid in full at the time it is added. Since your trip is next April, you have plenty of time to budget and save.

poisonivy thanks! I didn't realize that I could add it on later :goodvibes So I just contact the woman that we are renting points from and she can add it on for us. I just didn't want that charged today:scared1: Cool

That Right!!! You need to contact her once you've made your decision so she can add the plan for you when you are ready to pay. I wouldn't wait until the absolute last minute though, as I've read stories where it wasn't added as it should have been and proving it became a challenge.

So make sure you bring your receipt of purchase from whatever source of payment you use.
