Dining Plan: I have to vent.

Lewisc said:
There is no such thing as an adult TS and a child TS but children are required to order off the children's menu.

You weren't using the "loophole" but were "stealing". It's not a matter of what she was supposed to have but a matter of what you paid for. A buffet would have allowed your child to eat what she wanted without having to steal.

I'm sorry Lewis, but I have to say that it is a bit harsh to say that that is stealing. Saying that I was stealing when I was at Animal kingdom last week because my I wouldn't tell my 8 year old son that he couldn't eat pizza at Pizzafari is just ludicrous. The difference in price is just $1.50 between the peanut butter an jelly that they are permitted on the children's menu and the pizza I got for them. We also got an order of bread sticks from the adult's menu with our credits. I believe he menu price on that one was the same as a children's entree, plus it did not include the apple sauce or goldfish that the children's items included so the profit was probably much greater. Oh, and there are no counter service buffets.

Do you really think this makes me a thief?

A goody two shoes like me would never use a credit card, but I do use my debit card ;).

Then you must have a bad credit rating and no credit history either. Goody two shoes in America should/must/have to use a credit card. If you don't, your credit rating stinks and you will overpay on any loan you will ever get and may even be denied a job. Them's the facts.

Why so nasty??? :confused3

Just because someone has a credit card, doesn't mean they want to use it to pay for a vacation.

I take my credit cards with me when I vacation, but only use them for emergencies. I've taken 3 trips to WDW so far and haven't use my CC while there. I use my debit card, cash or travelers checks.

Okay, you roped me in. :)

I didn't say a goody two shoes would not have a credit card, I said a goody two shoes wouldn't use a credit card. A goody two shoes would only use a credit card in the case of an emergency. ;)

No...The popular opinion of the "people that understand that DISNEY pools the credits and there are no adult or child credit classifications" is that we should do what the Disney Restaurant allows us to do. We are free to maximize the value of the plan using the Terms of the plan.

First, I understand that Disney pools the credits and that there is no "adult credit" or "child credit" and I certainly don't agree with you...so your description of people who, for the most part, "agree" with you is inaccurate. But that aside...

Second, you say that you do what the restaurant/plan allows. I don't see how that is different than saying there is no "restriction/rule/law" against it, then do what you will. That seems to be two ways to say the same thing. Am I misunderstanding you?

Let's try again............ all together now.

IT IS DISNEY THAT POOLS THE CREDITS!
IT IS DISNEY THAT POOLS THE CREDITS!
IT IS DISNEY THAT POOLS THE CREDITS!
IT IS DISNEY THAT POOLS THE CREDITS!
IT IS DISNEY THAT POOLS THE CREDITS!

I'm not sure why you feel compelled to yell through your computer, but I fully understand that Disney has pooled the credits.

Thanks for your honest response.

Said goody two shoes must not have a credit card where she gets FF miles/ hotel points/Disney Dollars for everyday purchases that she pays every month.

And frankly, smart cookies know that there are several advantages to using a credit card over a debit card. Debit cards are tied directly to your account and you don't have as many chargeback rights as you do with using a credit card.

Whoa - thread deviation :)

As long as you control your spending and pay off the balance each month, there are more advantages to use credit cards over debit. Like someone else said you have more protection. You are not giving someone direct access into your "cash reserve" (relatively speaking, as compared to using credit card). You have more chance of earning reward points.

Heck, by using Disney Visa paying for things we normally have to buy - gas, grocery, paying utility bills, etc. - we have around $800 Disney dollars over the course about 1.5 year. That's the money you are 'giving up' for not using it.

YMMV. But, my personal opinion is that if the reward program is there, why not use it :)

$800 Disney dollars. YES! I can buy about 3 bottles of water in WDW with that!

Okay, okay, can we settle on a goody two shoes using an American Express card? :earboy2:

I would be wary them' thar' pardner! Posters on this thread seem to have a habit of accusing others of stealing! I'm sure one of them thinks that getting $800 towards your WDW vacation by using a credit card is stealing... somehow... from someone.... I'm sure they will post soon and tell us exactly why that is! :teeth:

Brygida

P.S. WOW! $800! I gotta do better (I only got $49 last time we went!)

OK, for all of the folk that think Disney is going to change the plan because someone is pooling credits and paying out of pocket for adult meals. What are you basing this on? This appears to have been the standard procedure for quite some time now. Yes, Disney is probably selling more of this plan than others in the past but I doubt the percentage of users that are paying out of pocket for children is any greater. There are many benefits to Disney other than the narrow scope of the cost of the dinning plan vs. what people consume. The plan helps fill rooms that may have otherwise been vacant. When people pre pay for thier vacation they may tend to buy more when there because they are not having to pay for everything else then.

So far it appears that there is no basis in fact for speculation on a change.

Yes we can! Sorry, I was just a bit annoyed about being excluded from the goody-two-shoes club... I want to be one and I use my credit card!

Seriously, the credit bureaus don't care which credit card you use. Your credit rating will go up if you use one... any one... and are on time with your payments... and pay it off each month. You can look at the latest issue of "Money" magazine for the multitude of reasons why using a credit card is better than a debit card. Funny they printed that article this month... isn't it?

Next month on Money Magazine - The Evils of Disney Dining Plan (Why You Shouldn't Eat Meals On Your Child's Dime). The exclusive expose will reveal thousands of hungry children starving within the confines of the Happiest Place On Earth. How could our society had let this happen? See how the greedy parents plotted to starve their kids while cheating the charitable Disney Corporation out of their hard earned money. The special article is followed by a another exclusive about the upcoming Million DIS'ers March On Washington - Bring Back Our Slipper Dessert. Coming next month.

Well. I think that post just about sums up the ludicrousness of this thread.

Thank you!

I use my credit card for EVERYTHING. In fact, when we went to WDW in July, I even put my BIL's room charges, airline tickets, meals, on my credit card and collected the $$$ from them. As a result, five of us are flying free to Hawaii. Who said being "bad" doesn't pay? ;)

Now, not that I can use the dining plan (being an annual pass holder which I also think is ridiculous) but I have a problem paying adult prices for my 10 yr old DS who eats like a two year old. How many others have the same thing. Now that Disney changed the age of child to 9 they are probably making out on those kids who eat like birds. There are probably as many of them as the people eating "adult meals on the childs plan" I see nothing wrong with ordering as you see fit. Lets face it if you have a large party are you going to remember who ate what counter service and when. Or if the kids don't want a big meal, so just let them eat your app. I would think most people would use the plan "as intended", I'm just jealous, because I can't use it at all without buying park tickets that I don't need. Even with the DDE it's way too expensive to pay 24.00 for a buffet that my 10yr old will eat nothing of. I think it's a great way for those who do not get to go much or are on a budget to eat well on vacation.

Just my 2 cents
K
