How do you set this up?
Hasas anyone done it?
Is it offically OK?
Is there info somewhere on this?
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can do it. The way I understand it is you simply make multiple ressies, apply the Dining Plan you wish to buy to the specific ressies, and then link all your ressies together through member services so you don't have to change rooms.

I plan on making 3 ressies on my next visit. A 1 day arrival day ressie, a 1 day departure day ressie, and third ressie for the middle section. I'll add the dining plan to the middle section only. Due to long flights, we always arrive late and depart early, so avoiding those extra dining credits we always have trouble using will be a big savings.

The only way you can only have dining plan for part of the stay is if you have 2 different reservations. Otherwise, they require you get the DP for the entire stay

We tried this but when they linked our reservations they said we had to carry the DP throughout ;(

Hi - We have segmented our May trip to WDW. We are staying for 14 nights, but have booked each night separately (segmentation) so we could have DDP every other night. We had no problem at all arranging this through Member Services. All the best. :dance3:

I segmented my August trip. I have booked night 1, 2 and 3 all seperate and then my last two nights together.

I have not completely figured out what I am doing but I know I am getting the DxDDP for night two. I may also add a night of the QSDP and some of the DDP.

We are switching resorts after two nights which I think makes it easier, but I just emailed MS and asked them to segment.

i was advised through email (that was how i addressed it) to book my reservation complete..then wait a few days and cal back and make the changes accordingly

A while back, you couldn't link two reservations and get different dining on the two legs of the trip. They have since changed that. But you really need to do that when you make the reservation because when the split it up, there is a chance to lose the reservation.

this was the reply i received when i asked this question last week....

We appreciate your interest in a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resort. At this
time, we are able to divide a reservation that has already been booked
into multiple segments to allow for changes in party or Disney Dining
Plan. Ideally, you would want to make your reservation with these
segments already established, but we understand that this may not be
possible when booking a stay of more than 7 nights at the opening of a
booking window.

We have never done a split dining staying at one resort. We have switched resorts and then having the dining plan added or not added.

Thank you for sharing this ... I am still a bit up in the air about what we will do about dining, so it is nice that this may be an option.

Yes it is possible and I have done it- split my already made reservation into three linked parts. There IS a way they can do it without a risk of losing your reservation so if they tell you different call back or ask to speak with someone who knows how. I am getting the DXDP on two nights of a 7 night reservation.

I booked a 5 night stay at VWL for this February. After I had booked I found out about the split dining. I called MS and was told I had to split my reservation but risked losing my room in the process. After explaining my concern to the CM that I didn't want to risk my room I was asked to hold on. She returned to tell me no problem we can do it. I kept the original reservation without changing a thing. If you get the right CM magic can be done.

Thank goodness I find great information on these boards, otherwise I would have listened to the friendly fellow at MS who told me (just today) that this was not possible. We have two separate reservations (BC studio and BW one bedroom) coming up in March that were booked at 2 different times. I called today to add our outbound ME flights and inquired into splitting the BW portion into segments. "Trevor" allowed me to add dining to the first BC stay, but then said segmenting the BW stay can only be done at time of initial booking...trying to split it now would risk losing some/all of the reservation. His words were essentially now that it was booked as 8 nights, I would have to add dining to the entire stay or none of it.

I asked a number of times and he insisted. Since I did not want to argue (knowing the sage advice given so often on these boards: call back and ask again!) I plan on trying again (or perhaps sending an email once I decide exactly how I would like it divided).

It is disheartening to know from the examples listed above that what I was requesting was clearly possible, but the person I happened to get on that phone call was certain it could not be done. He actually ended the conversation reminding me that next time I booked (at 11 or 7 months out) I should ask for the segments at that time so I would not be disappointed. Once again, thank goodness for the DIS!!! :yay:

When I booked today, I was told that segmenting should be done after a few days so that I didn't have to call back to keep booking each day individually. Should I have been able to do it with my initial booking? I have successfully segmented two other reservations, but it ws done well after I first booked.
Thanks, sue

You can only do it when you book if you are not calling right at the 11 or 7 month window.

If you are calling exactly at those times, you can not segment as it would be seen as a different reservation.

Any other time, you can. I had mine segmented by simply sending MS an email through the member website. It was easy and I did not have to worry about getting an uninformed CM. I made it clear in the email that I did not want it done if I risked losing my reservation.

In 2 days, it was all set the way that I wanted it.

On a recent 10-day stay, we did a 1 day reservation on the first day. We then did the deluxe dining plan for all 5 of us. We did two character dinners and one character breakfast over two days. We also used the 5 refillable mugs during our entire 10-day stay. We didn't do any more character meals after the first two days, but we use the TIW card.

Next year we plan to do the same thing and do a character dinner and then the hoop-dee-doo dinner (takes two credits). We don't want that much food for our entire stay, but we're glad to have the option to do a couple character meals. We prefer to do the dining plan on the first night of our stay so that we get the mugs for the entire stay.

If the reservation is "segmented" then there is no checking in & checking out everyday your dining plan changes?

I was told if my reservation is segmented I do not have to check in and out. Lets hope that is right!
Also, they told me ideally you should segment at the time you book it but you don't have to and since this is a new policy re: the dining plan I feel like they need to stop telling people that! Hello you didn't have this option available when I booked so why would I have segmented. Anyway if they give you grief tell them that!!

Just got off the phone with member services. Here is my breakdown:

check in 2/8 arrive approx 20:30 check in Kidani Village no plan
2/9 - 2/12 DxDP
2/13 no plan
2/14 - 2/16 DDP
2/17 move to Jambo House
2/17 - 2/20 QSP
2/21 check out move to airport hotel for early flight

I was on the phone for about 35min. Vern was fantastic and very helpful. Now I hope the rest will be painless. Crossing my fingers:worship:
