we are going back to WDW next year and are thinking of getting the dining plan. We do like to eat well and have a sit down meal everyday, and have no problems with planning. We are also going September which as it's quiet we should be able to rearrange some of our ADR's if we need to. We also like to do the character breakfasts. After working out the average amount we spent on food and snacks etc whilst we were there last year (and we didn't have a sit down everyday due to cost) we spent quite a bit more than the dining plan would have cost us per day.

The only downside i can see is that whilst our 2 children (who will be 3 and 5) are very happy with the childrens selections on the table service menu's aren't too fussy on the kids counter service offereings and we tended to get them an adult meal to share. Would we be able to do this with the plan?

Do you think 21 days is too much for the dining plan? I'm sure we wouldn't be paying out of pocket for very much with that many credits

I have 2 questions for you .the 1st is a how do you spend those 21 days. Are they in parks/water parks everyday, or are you spending time outside WDW at like Universal/Seaworld or maybe relatives? If you are doing outside activites I wouldn't do dinning plan. The 2nd Question is do you plan on doing 2 big meals a day? You say you like charecter breakfasts, do you eat a big meal for lunch/dinner later that day , or is it snacking/ counter service places. If its snacking/ counter service I wouldn't do dining plan, I would buy groceries for that and pay the price of the Buffets. ACtually I have a 3rd question for you / We spend usually 14-16 days at WDW each year, but split up into 2 seperate weeks of 7-8 days each time.By day 7 i've had my fill until next visit, my question is don't you think you will get bored by about the 10-11 day? would it be possible to split it into 2 seperate weeks? going about every 6 months sse s to keep me in disney kind of mind year round!

I stayed for 16 nights and it wasn't enough :D 21 days sounds about right to me!

The price of flights from Scotland is a bit prohibitive to several trips in 1 year unfortunately.

Suzanne, as you know this is something that every now and again I mull over but to be honest think I'll just stick with DDE for the time being, 21 days DDP rates for 2 adults and 2 kids will be serious $$$ are you sure you'd spend more using your DDE card and cereals in the room for breakfast for the kids ......??

I can honestly say, that no matter how many days I stay in Disney, I would use and utilize the Dining Plan to the fullest.

We also have a lot of character dining and at least 1 sit down meal a day. We use about 90% of the counter service and 90% of the snacks as well. But the savings we have strictly with the TS meals is well worth it for the dining plan.

Some posters say that the dining plan for that time period is serious $$..which it is. But you are going to need to eat for those 21 days which will cost serious MORE $$ without the dining plan.

Plus, think of how convenient it will be not to have to worry about food or cost of meals for that long? It will make a nice long trip even that more relaxing..I say yeah baby!

I think it would be cheaper to go without the Dining Plan, b/c you can only get it with the purchase of MYW tickets, and Annual passes would probably be cheaper for the length of your stay.

As long as you are planning to spend the vast majority of your time on property, not needing to eat elsewhere, I would think it could work great. 21 days--oh my! I am so jealous. Enjoy!

I am not positive about this but I thought that you could only do packages for 10 days. This would mean you would have to possibly book 2 10 day packages. Also for park admission I would think it would be cheaper to look into annual passes.

Thanks for all your input and replies

Coming from the UK we have 21 day ultimate tickets which gives you 21 days access to all the parks, waterparks etc and hopping. They are a very good price at approx $350. It is possible to book 21 nights hotel stay, the 21 day passes and the dining plan for 21 days through UK tour operators.

I do believe we would save considerably with the dining plan. We spent on average $150 per day on food last year. Someday we didn't have a table service meal due to spending more than our budget previous days, and last trip our DD was under 2 so we didn't pay for her on most occasions, we also had the DDE card,so the $98 it costs for the 4 of us for the dining plan certainly seems good value.

Thanks again

The dining plan is the way to go. If you do a couple of signiture dining (HHR is great as well as Cal. Grill) you will use up 2 credits anyway, so if there are any days you either do not want plan a TS meal or are going off site you will still use all the credits. :bounce: - that is me geen with envy!
Have a great trip! Melissa

We've spent 19 days in WDW and it was a perfect time. That particular year we visited Discovery Cove, Seaworld once and US/IOA twice each. The rest of the trip we spent in WDW. We usually shop for a few hours each day too. Two sit down meals a day is plenty for us and we usually have our share of character breakfasts/lunches.

I would never go again without the dining plan! The only thing is for 21 days of it, I would for sure bring the next larger size in pants :rotfl2:
