Just wondering if you can add the DDP if you rent points from a DVC member and purchase your tickets separately.

I have the PIN code for the whole year :cool1:, and we are doing the GAD promotion. So, if we stay in a regular resort we won't be able to add it as we would be doing room only. Planning on using Air Miles for our little guy's ticket.

Not sure if I even want the DDP as I like to eat salads and appetizer type meals, but just checking out all my options. I would mainly like it for the character meals and dinner shows.

Thanks.

You may purchase the DDP when staying at DVC on point regardless how how your tickets are purchased.

I am finding with many of the new codes being released that Disney is allowing room only reservations using discount codes to add tickets and DDP.

I would advise calling and getting a quote with your PIN and then looking around to guessimate what the DVC points rental would cost and compare the two.

HTH! :wizard:

Looks like you've got your answer, but I'll just add another voice saying yes.

We rented DVC points last week. We did not purchase tickets (had days left on our non-expiring tickets), and we were able to purchase DDP.

You can't add the DDP yourself to a DVC rental reservation. You'd need to ask the member you are renting from to call Member Services and add it to your reservation, because DVC Member Services will deal only with the actual member. This must be done no later than 2 days before arrival. You pay for the plan when you check in.

You'd have to purchase DDP for everyone registered in your room for the length of the stay.

Technically that isn't what they're doing. The codes are applicable to packages if you're allowed to keep them while adding tickets and DDP. A dining plan can never be added to a room-only reservation (except a DVC reservation). Adding tickets and DDP makes the reservation a package.

This is important because packages have different deposit, cancellation, change and payment rules than room only reservations. If you've added tickets and DDP to what was a room-only reservation, be aware you're now on a package reservation and on package payment and cancellation rules. You also would have to add both tickets and DDP to make a package. You can't add DDP without also adding tickets unless you are an annual passholder or eligible for the military room discount. Looked to me like the OP wanted a room and dining without a ticket purchase requirement.

Two excellent points! Thanks for clarifying TDC Nala! That's why they pay you the big bucks! :rotfl:

This is true. The member we rented from had to add it, and we paid for it (paid Disney directly) when we checked in. I believe the member also had to request Magical Express service for us.

That's what I thought.

Does anyone know if someone using their RCI points to book DVC can add the DDP? :confused3

TIA

Member Services just told me that you now have to pay for the dining plan when you add it to your reservation, is there a way around this when you are renting out your points? That would make it much easier.

The pre paying part is new this year and there is no way around it. While it would be easier, I dont' think DVC cares about making rentals easier!

This is the new way, begun October 2010. And no, there's no way around it. You will have to work out payment terms for the dining plan with the renter, as well as payment terms for the points themselves.
