Dining Plan Desserts

We are planning on doing the Quick Service Dining Plan on our next trip. I know each meal comes with a dessert but if you don't want the dessert at that moment but would still like to order an entree, is it possible to go back to the restaurant at a later time to get a dessert only?

No, unfortunately, but you simply take the desserts with you if you don't want to eat them with your meal. The counter service desserts are prepackaged, allowing for easy portability. Once the Cast Member swipes your card at the register, though, you will lose the credit permanently regardless of what you ultimately order.

No unfortunately you cannot do this at the parks.

Now at POP resort you can get the cashier to mark your receipt if you want to return to get a sundae from the sundae station. You have 90 mins to do this. It is so you can eat without letting the sundae melt.

But that is the only place I know of that allows it.

I believe all the resort counter service restaurants with ice cream as a dessert option will allow you to come back later. POFQ told us to come back within 30 minutes, though, not 90 minutes. They circled the time on the receipt when we paid, and when we went back for the ice cream, she took the receipt and tore the end to show it had been "cashed" for the ice cream.

Some counter service places in the parks will allow fruit as your dessert, or allow you to take a bottled water as dessert if you're not interested in the traditional packaged dessert choices. Check the kids menu -- if the kids menu shows fruit sides, they will often let you have that for a dessert. DD did that several times. Keep in mind, though, the kids meal fruit or veggie servings are very small. Like the packaged apple slices was about 4 slices - maybe 1/2 or a tiny apple. Packaged grapes were about 8-10 grapes. But if you're not a dessert-person, that's better than nothing

Just confirming that you can go back for your ice cream at the AS resorts. My brother just got back yesterday and told me that they figured this out after a few days there. He said the sundaes were really big too! They were given a coupon to go back for the ice cream. Didn't mention if there was a time limit, though.
