We leave in less than 3 weeks for my dd spring break trip with DH and myself. Something just came up with my DH's work so he will only be able to join us for 2 out of our 5 days. I ordered the dining plan last week and am wondering if I can remove him from the room reservation for the last 3 days and change his dining plan accordingly? Or am I outta luck and have to pay for his dining plan for the full vacation even though he will not be there!

Thanks!

It's all or nothing when it comes to the dining plan. Either you leave him on and pay for all nights, or remove him from the reservation completely.

Can you use the extra credits for another meal or a signature?

The credits do not have to be used by him.

Thanks for the replies. That's what I was afraid of. Now I just have to decide whether it makes sense to cancel the dining plan all together or just try to use his credits up ourselves.

Wondering what the thinking is behind this rule???

The dining plan was conceived to make Disney money, the "rule" increases their profit even more.

If you plan on eating table service or character meals, you might want to consider the Tables In Wonderland card instead of the dining plan. OR, you could put the money you are spending on the plan on a Disney gift card and use that for your meals instead.

And if you buy your gift cards at Target using your red card, you can save 5% on the cards. (If you have a pharmacy rewards you can stack that discount, but you are traveling too soon to make that happen).

The dining plan was always intended to be a length-of-stay plan. If they allowed guests to pick-and-choose purchase dates, many people would only buy the plan on days when they structure dining reservations to get $80 worth of food for the $55 plan fee.

By mandating LOS, Disney knows most people won't continue eating the most expensive entrees at the most expensive locations for an entire trip. And some guests even leave with dining credits that are unused.

Why don't they let people specify short stays for certain guests in their party? Simply because some people would lie to manipulate the plan.

Maybe i am wrong on this because i don't really know, But couldn't you just cancel him from the trip then you wouldn't have to get him the dining plan. Then get him a 2 day ticket separate? Does everyone staying in a room have to be "registered" to the room? We have always done the whole thing tickets dining and room so we are all always registered. However when i have stayed anywhere else other then Disney I never had to register all people staying in the room. I guess that's where my thoughts of this are coming from.

If using DME to get from MCO to the Resort, he has to be listed on the room reservation. If he is not listed and this is their first MyMagic+ (MagicBands & FastPass+) eligible stay, he would not be eligible for MyMagic+ if he is not listed on the room reservation.

I never even thought of the perks you wouldn't get if you are not registered. That makes sense. Thats why i love these boards!! Could you break the trip into two reservations? One 2 day reservation and one 3 day reservation? I guess that would cancel out the multi day ticket discount though, you would have to see cost wise which you would save more on.

Thanks for all the great suggestions folks. I think the simplest thing for me to do given the circumstances is to cancel the dining plan and throw the money on a gift card and use that to pay for our meals. We have APs and the DVC discount we can utilize at some restaurants so I'll be sure to take advantage of that.

A bit frustrating to not be able to just have him on part of the reservation and have the dining plan for those nights though. Oh well. :)

You would have to move to a different villa category or different resort. You would not be able to stay in the same room.
