Dining Plan available for Non-DVC Membership?

I'm planning on going with a friend, who is a member of a timeshare that has all of the DVC resorts available as shared properties. This means we can stay at the Beach Club Villas for around $129 for the week.

My question is this....can we add the dining plan to this? I would always assume that Disney would never turn down a chance to make money, but you never know.....

Has anyone done this and, if so, how do you go about doing it?

I don't think your post gives us enough info to answer your question.

If you are trading into a DVC resort from another timeshare (through II, I presume), then you are staying on points at a DVC resort and you would be eligible to buy the DDP.

DDP isn't about the $38.99 per person per day they charge -- it's about filling resort rooms. With DVC point stays (in DVC resorts only), we can buy the plan.

If you call CRO for a regular reservation, you will usually pay rack rate for the room (or AAA discount), plus a minimum one-day base park ticket purchase, in order to be eligible to purchase DDP.

If your friend is able to get a trade into one of the DVC resorts through II, your friend can set up the dining plan through Member Services after he pays the $95.00 resort services fee for trading into a WDW DVC resort. That $95.00 fee is in addition to his $139.00 trade fee. (II's trade fee is now $139.00). When you count what somebody pays in maintenance fees and purchase price for their timeshare and their II membership fees, they pay more than $139.00 when you add it all up.

All people staying in the unit have to purchase the dining plan in advance (arranged through Member Services) for the whole week. So yes, II exchangers are eligible for the dining plan.

I agree with the other info presented. Your post suggests your friend has a pick of DVC options available just for the taking. This has never been the case. He/She can asks but getting anything at BCV is highly unlikely at all. Getting a studio or 1 BR certain times of the year can be doable but it is likely to be SSR or OKW most often. Jan, early Feb, May, late Aug, Sept, early Oct and early Dec are the easiest times to get. 2 BR units happen but are very rare.

My friend has a time share through a company called Interval (spelling). In the big book they give you, the DVC resorts are listed as places he can stay. I'm not sure how they do it, but its basically, he pays $129 for the week and he can stay there....I'm not sure if its a trade or how its done. Its the same as a DVC member staying at Aspen for a week....same deal.

What I'm trying to figure out is (1) if the dining plan can be purchased and (2) is it done through Interval or through DVC?

Interval International is the exchange company. It sounds as though your friend owns a timeshare that exchanges thru II and DVC resorts are some of the many options for those exchanges. They are also highly sought trades and are not available at all DVC resorts all of the time. Your friend might be successful in getting a DVC exchange.

As already explained, your friend will have access to DVC member services to request the dining plan for his stay. There is also a $95 fee that must be paid to DVC in addition to the cost of the exchange itself. All of this will be in the exchange information along with how to contact DVC for these requests. You will need to make the exchange thru II, but all other requests will be done thru DVC.

Good luck with the exchange and have a great stay. :)

So if I'm looking at September 8...week after labor day. You're basically saying that they're available but they're not really available because they stay booked? He has the premium plan from Interval which is supposed to offer the best room at the property...but it sounds like DVC will give the basic studio.

Another question? If the stay is a 7 day week, does the park tickets and dining plan have to be purchased for the 7 days as well? In other words, if I only want to do 5 days in the parks/dining, can I do that or not?

I'm totally unfamiliar and trying to do this with him and use his time share....he's totally unfamiliar with Disney so he doesn't know what to ask for. The tone I'm getting here is that the DVC resorts listed in his book are nothing more than filler because noone can ever get them?

Thanks again for all your help.....I really appreciate your answering my questions.

There may be some availability in September at some of the DVC resorts. Whether your friend's timeshare has enough trading power to secure one is unknown. If you are planning on a specific resort like BCV, you may be disappointed. It will all depend on what is available in the II inventory. Whether he gets the exchange is entirely dependent on II. There are many factors involved in getting a specific exchange. There are far more requests for the DVC resorts (and many other resorts in the II catalog) than rooms available.

If you want the dining plan, it will need to be purchased by everyone staying in the villa for the entire length of the stay. Admission passes can be for any number of days you want. Once you get the exchange, the contact information will be sent to you with suggestions for your stay.

Enjoy!

Timeshare exchanging is a complicated process. You may be able to get something somewhere at DVC in Sept in a 1 BR or studio. As Doc mentions, it also depends on the trading power and resort quality rating as to whether they could get it even if it were sitting there. For the Dining plan you must get if for the entire 7 days for an exchange even if you stay less than the full 7 days.

Your friend needs to have a deposit with II and then put in an ongoing request for the DVC properties and weeks that are acceptable. They pay the exchange fee up front and you pay the extra $95 fee to DVC if you match and as late as check in. I have seen a number of weeks at OKW and SSR for that week so you may indeed get something if you get the request in soon. For a 2 BR it's possible but unlikely for that week.

Just wishing your friend good luck and have a great vacation.

I just want to add is if you want to trade you need to start looking now. I trade my timeshare with Interval for DVC. I just keep looking and looking for when DVC's are open. You never know. Last year we went in Jan. (perfect vacation). This year we are going the first week in Sept. So you can't pick a week to trade with Interval if you are going to Disney. You just have to watch and see what comes up. I had looked for weeks before the Sept. trip came open. Good Luck. The DVC's are the greatest!!!
