Dining plan at FW?

I am debating on adding dining to our package but have a few concerns since I have never stayed at FW before. I'm hoping you all can help me think through it!

Is there a food court?
Since we'll have a full kitchen, are we likely to just end up preparing our own food and not using the plan?
Also, will every TS meal cost 2 credits at FW or are there any that will cost only 1 per person?
How far is it to Whispering Canyon? Could we walk if we have senior adults in our party?

I know that it all depends on the family and their lifestyle and that is different for everyone, but I'm hoping to get a feel for whether it is convenient or not to use the plan at FW. We've used at least half of our CS meals at our resorts in the past. Of course, we've never had a kitchen so it would be pretty easy to make lunch in our camper this time.

Any thoughts?

Do you have any kids in the party? I think the DP is a great deal for the kids especially! Trails End is only one table credit. The HDDR dinner show is 2 credits. We did the HDDR w/ our credits last time and it was great. Normally it is $50/person and it felt wonderful to already have it paid for. I think, if you have seniors in your party, that they would really enjoy the HDDR. You can also use your table credits for breakfast at Trails End. We really enjoyed it last year. If you use credits for the first day that you are there plus the last day, for some breakfast meals, and on some 2 credit meals they seem to not be so overwhelming. You can use them til midnight the following day after you last night. You will still use your kitchen, I am sure, for some quick breakfast meals and late snacks. The snack credits that we had left over we cashed in the last day for waters and snacks for the trip home. It was wonderful to get icecreams in the parks w/out whipping out cash each time we wanted one!

We stayed at FTW on the dining plan last fall. We enjoyed it, but a couple of things to be aware of...

There isn't a place on site to use your counter or snack credits. We chose to take a boat over to the WL or the Contemporary to use those credits (if we weren't going into the parks that day). I think that is one of the biggest drawbacks to the meal plan at FTW. If you are in the parks every day then it probably isn't as big a deal, but we were making it a point to relax and enjoy our time in FTW (which is such a fun place in and of itself).

Don't bother trying to walk to the WL - take the boat. It is quick and enjoyable.

Trails End buffet is tasty and filling and offers a pretty good choice. That said, I wouldn't want to eat there more than a couple of times in a given stay.

Like the previous poster, we also used 2 credits to go to the HDDR and loved it. We drank lots of sangria (watch out, it creeps up on you) and enjoyed the show. The food is comparable to Trails End. Definitely worth doing at least once.

We are going back next year, and I'm not sure if we'll use the meal plan or not yet. In the end we probably will, as we enjoyed hitting some of the resteraunts we wouldn't have otherwise, at a considerable discount.
