Dining plan at Disneyland?

Their "dining plan" is basically just pre-paid vouchers that need to be used in whole at a meal or the remaining balance is forfeited. If you go over the face value, you pay the additional cost. In other words, you don't save anything and can lose money on them. In general they are not recommended.

Well that stinks! Thanks for the info!

I understand your disappointment. My first experience with a Disney Dining plan was at WDW and was free for all 14 days we were there. I worked it, and it was a wonderful thing. Sigh.

i use to be the one who would hop in and say get it, its saves time and has all paid as you need, but right now i like the put that money on gift card and use that. Sorry to say it but unless they change the ddining plan we probable will continue with the gift cards and some pre paid chr meals on getaway today

hahaha jade i remember when you first came on and were all pumped up about the DDP and myself along with several people told you the same thing you are telling the OP now...funny how things evolve the more you get to know a place:goodvibes

Thanks for the info. I was considering getting the 5 day dining plan when we go in October, as I know we're going to do character dining at Ariel's and Plaza inn and have meals at Big Thunder BBQ and Blue Bayou. I figured we'd use up our vouchers over those four meals, but I guess it will be easier to get a gift card - how do I do that by the way? Can I just do it at DL once we get there? And do you pre-pay for the character meals when you book them? Questions questions...sorry I am a newbie to Disneyland planning...:scared:

You do not pay for character meals when you book; they're equivalent to a reservation at a regular restaurant.

I buy Disney gift cards at Safeway. This works really well for us. I have the peace of mind knowing that everything is paid for, and we get the gas rewards when buying the cards. We drive to DL, and last time I had almost $2 gas rewards from buying them! That really helps when gas is so expensive!

i wish! :cloud9:

its not just for FL residents....if you have an AP you can get it too...we used it when we went in Dec. and man did it save some cash!!
Sorry ~ Forgot about WDW AP holders and also DVC members are eligible as well.
