Dining Plan and renting points

I am new to this board and I am thinking about renting points for a tri[ this fall and was wondering if I am able to get the dining plan and tickets while renting points. Thanks in advance

You can get the dining plan if you wish. The member you rent from would need to add that to the reservation. You pay for the dining plan when you check in to the resort.

Theme park tickets are not available thru dvc and are not included as part of the stay. You would need to purchase them yourself from any authorized ticket seller.

I have another question, what happens if free dining comes out? Do we still have to pay for the dining plan or do we get free dining as well?

Yes, you still pay for the dining plan. The only way to get free dining is to book a room through CRO and pay rack rate for it. There is no free dining for DVC for members or renters.

(And I've been assured by my "source" that free dining *is* coming out next week.)

I just wanted to see if anyone else thinks that when disney does "free" dining for the CRO ressies, that DVC members should get a break on the price. We pay Disney ALL YEAR, at least they could do is treat us as good as the general public. Or better. I don't think we should get it free. Why then everyone would go. BUT we should get a reduced price when they offer it free to the general public. We are supposed to be special you know......Just my thoughts

The free dining isn't really "free." You have to pay full rack rate for a cash room to qualify. Meaning you'd be looking at about $250 per night for a studio. Your points surely cost much less.

I'm sure now one would turn down an extra discount but unless they offer a discount to all staying on property or free dining to everyone, not just the free dining package, I'd say no they should not. Free dining really isn't free as Chuck points out and the value of the free dining varies with the resort and room type.

No, I don't think we should get it at a discount. There's no reason for Disney to offer that discount and frankly, if they did, they'd probably take away some other discount to balance it out. And the truth is that DVC owners aren't paying a lot of extra money on a room just to take advantage of "free" dining - you pay dearly for that dining by paying rack rates, believe me! (Well, it's a sliding scale I guess - for me, we stay at deluxe resorts, so the price is high.) IMO, hoping Disney will offer free or reduced-cost dining is like hoping your home builder or your mortgage lender will buy your groceries!

I love Disney and I love being a DVC member, but I also know it's easy to "romanticize" it. Are we special? Yeah, I guess, because we shelled out a lot of money in advance for our stays, or because we're committed to years of buying admission, spending our money in shops, etc. If you define "special" by how you are treated by Disney in terms of discounts, events, and perks, then being an AP holder qualifies you as "special" I suppose. They have more special events and more access to discounts (everything from rooms to Tables in Wonderland eligibility to dining and recreation).

(I'm not picking on you - this topic seems to come up every day or two and I've been thinking about it lately.)
