We are going on the dining plan in April and may be paying OOP for some items (extra appetizers, alcohol etc). Can you still use your room key to charge this back to your room or is it best to use cash? What if we were paying OOP for meals? We may want to add a TS breakfast to what we already have and would need to pay for that. I know that if your room key is set up to charge you can but with the meals also being linked to you room key I wondered if it got confusing or mixed up?

Anyone have any experiences to share about this? Or thoughts ideas or suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

It's a lot safer to simply pay cash for anything OOP when meals are concerned. While Disney is pretty good about getting errors sorted out, it chews up your time standing around while they figure out what to do. Why wait for a fix when you can eliminate the problem in the first place!

Yes, you can use your room key to pay for OOP expenses. We did this last September when we had the dining plan. I admit there was some confusion with one cashier at the Riverside Mill food court. But she was new, so I had to take a few extra minutes to explain to her exactly what I wanted. She finally got it. As long as you are very clear with your server you shouldn't have any problems.

I would say charge it to your room - especially if you have difficulty keeping track of receipts - the first night we went to Planet Hollywood and used 3 dining credits and I paid OOP for the 11 yr old - I paid cash and forgot to keep the receipt (boy did I learn my lesson!) after leaving the restaurant I realized that they had charged us 4 dining credits and of course when I got back to the hotel to have it fixed I had no "proof" that I had paid OOP for the other meal. Thankfully the woman at the desk was very helpful and fixed the problem anyways.
