Dining Plan and Partial Stays

My mom is planning to come for 4 days of a 9 day trip. We will be booking 3 different rooms, and she will just stay with one of us during her time. We are going to get the DDP, not because its cheaper, just easier for us to keep track of credits than dollars.

My question is, to get mom a key to the room, but not the dining plan, can we add her beforehand to the reservation or do we have to wait until we arrive and buy her tickets then and add them and her to the room?

Also if we can add her beforehand, can we do the DDP for her during her stay, but not the rest of the trip?

You cannot get the dining plan for part of the days on one reservation, or for part of the people in one room.

I have been able to add someone at check as long as you do not exceed room capacity. No need to get dining plan for them- not an option.

Other option would me to creat 2 reservations before she arrives and after.

Technically this may work but doing it purposefully to bypass the rules would be dishonest.

I thought about doing a split stay, so that she could be pre registered in the room while she was there (so we could pre pay everything), but the possibility of having to switch rooms made me scrap that idea.

Im not sure how doing that would be dishonest though.

DVC does not allow split stays unless the room type actually changes.

You can't simply break up a stay by segmenting like you could before. You'd have to change room types or resorts. There is a way to do it but at best you'd have to change rooms and be orphaned for part of the day. What I was referring to as being dishonest was purposefully waiting to add someone at check in or after for the purpose of avoiding the DP charge for that person.
