Dining Plan and DVC

Can you purchase the Disney Dining Plan with your DVC resort stay?

Yes. It must be added at least 48 hours prior to your arrival date. You pay for it when you check in.

If you are a member, you need t call Member Services to add the DDP. If you are renting from a members, or staying as the guest of a members, the member must call for you. If you are trading in via RCI, you will receive the Memeber Services phone number when you ereceive your written confirmation. RCI traders can call DVC Member Services with that confirmation number to add the plan.

In all cases, you pay at check-in. Unless you are renting directly from Disney...then it is technically a CRO reservation and follows all the rules for their packages.

I'm rounding up a few cents, and 2010 prices haven't been announced. But for 2009, the standard DDP is about $40 per adult per night, children 9 and under are about $11. The deluxe plan is $72 per adult and $21 per child per night.

All occupants of the room must be on the same plan and for all nights of the room reservation.

Thanks for the quick reply! Now that my kids are young I see the value in doing at least the basic dining plan so we can do a character meal a day. Still on the fence about DVC but will likely do something at BLT. Good to know the dining plan is there if I want it.

Don't count on it long term, Disney has a history of these type plans coming, being gutted, then going away.

I would strongly recommend that you evaluate DVC solely on the basis of using your points at DVC resorts...nothing else.

Any perk we enjoy today can be taken away with the stroke of a Disney pen, and perks are constantly changing. Since we bought five years ago, many perks have been discontinued and many others (including DDP) have been added.

DDP has already been through the introduction and gutting stages Dean mentioned, so it wouldn't surprise me if it went away in the next couple of years. It was initially a lodging promotion, not a dining promotion, and Disney has many ways to promote their rooms.

Do your research carefully, and ignore perks.

I agree, either the price will rise, or a beverage or dessert will be the next to go. I doubt we'll recognize the DDP in 3 to 5 years, if it is even still around.

Or they could eliminate the basic DDP altogether and just offer the CS plan and Deluxe.

I think there are many ways they could make it win/win. They could remove the dessert and reduce the price accordingly by say $7-8 a day. As I mentioned previously, they could make it appy or dessert. They could allow 2 snack credits for dessert and/or appy and give you more snack credits accordingly. They could alter the program such that 1 credit was a CS, 2 a TS and 3 a signature. All fairly easy to make it about the same cost to Disney and for the most part for the patrons all while giving more value to those who use it and actually simplifying the plans down to 1 or 2 different plan types rather than the 3 they have now.
