Dining Plan and credits

Hi all!

I've mentioned in other posts that I'm starting my preliminary planning. We have never been to WDW with the dining program. I hear a lot of DISer's talking about credits and having left over credits. So how does that work?

Do you get a specific number of credits based on your length of stay, and you can use those how you want (ie. you could eat 3 TS meals in one day), or is it more like 1 CS and 1 TS per day?

I really like the idea of helping folks out with left over credits, but not sure I'm grasping how this all work out.

Your credits are based on the number of nights of your stay, not number of days or park ticket length. They are awarded en masse at check in, and you may use them at any time and in any order from the time you check in until the midnight following your check out from that reservation.

So, if you have the regular DDP for a 4-night stay, you'd have 4 TS, 4 CS, and 4 snack credits per person that you can use. If you check in on a Sunday, all of the credits would have to be used by the end of Thursday (that being the check-out morning), but there's no limit on how you use them within that window. You could, for example, use all 4 TS credits in one day (breakfast, lunch, and a 2-credit signature dinner or dinner show) if you wished.

Thanks Faldred! I think that pretty much answers my question!

Not sure what you meant by "helping folks out with extra credits," but Disney doesn't allow using your dining credits to purchase meals for people who are not on your reservation or dining plan. You could not use your credits to pay for dinner for the people at the next table or something like that.

^^^OK. Confused again. I see the following example a lot around here:

"The people behind us in line were worried about how much their lunch would cost. We had extra credits on our dining plan so we gave them our credits."

That would appear to go against what TDC Nala just posted.

Is this one of those things that's not Disney approved, but is done anyway depending on the server?

Please note the Disney dining plan brochure has the following printed in its "Redeeming your Meals" section:

You may not redeem meals or snacks for any Guests who are not on
your Disney Dining Plan.

This is the policy adhered to by the DIS Restaurant Boards. Per the policy on these boards, any discussion of using credits for persons who are not on your dining plan will be deleted.

Gee Whiz! Not trying to stir the pot. Merely trying to find an answer to a topic covered in many other forums on this board. Actually, judging by your reaction, I guess that does answer my question.

Thanks, and certainly didn't mean to offend. Have a magical day!

OP. No worries, just the mods way of making sure others don't chime in with their "breaking the rules posts". That way your thread can stay open. ;)

Many time people know the rules and try to post how to get around them, I am sure that is NOT what you are trying to do, but when you hang around the boards long enough you see ALL KINDS of things. :rotfl2:

Now back to your question: Since you have had part of your questions answered I will let you know this:

Not everyone has credits left. Actually it amazes me that people do. I mean if you are on the deluxe plan....maybe, but really you still shouldn't have credits left unless you aren't eating 3 meals a day (which some don't). But then if you don't eat 3 meals...why are you buying that plan??? See doesn't make sense if you think it out.

Snack credits now it is easy to have those left over. And you just basically get snacks to take home with you. (we love rice krispie treats)

Hope you enjoy your trip!!

Thanks Nadjalu! I love it here at the DIS so I was worried about offending.

Thanks everyone for all the input! Now to continue planning!!
